Hadith #2985

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) warns against the extreme and excessive behavior of praising or criticizing others. And thus We have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hadid (57:25), Allah states,

We sent Our messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain [their affairs] in justice.

Here, Allah emphasizes the need for balance and justice in all matters, including the way we praise or criticize others.

Exaggeration in praise can lead to arrogance, flattery, and the distortion of reality. It may create an inflated sense of self-worth and can be detrimental to personal growth and development. Similarly, exaggeration in censure can lead to slander, backbiting, and the destruction of relationships. It can cause harm and damage to individuals and communities.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), being the epitome of knowledge and wisdom, warns us against such extremes. He encourages us to adopt a balanced approach in our interactions with others, recognizing their strengths and weaknesses without going to extremes. This approach fosters humility, fairness, and understanding.

By avoiding exaggeration in praise and censure, we uphold the principles of justice, sincerity, and truthfulness. We become more mindful of our words and actions, ensuring that they align with the teachings of Islam. This moderation allows us to maintain harmonious relationships and promotes a healthy and balanced society.
