Hadith #1420

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Stinginess gives rise to hatred.

This thought-provoking saying highlights the negative consequences of being stingy and miserly. To fully understand the implications of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words.

The word (bukhl) "بُخْلُ" refers to stinginess or miserliness. It is the act of withholding or being reluctant to spend or give, even when one has the means to do so. The phrase (yujibu al-baghda) "يُوجِبُ البَغْضاءَ" translates to

And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent
