Hadith #1779

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

أفْضَلُ الجُودِ إيصالُ الحُقُوقِ إلى أهْلِها۔

This can be translated as,

The greatest generosity is delivering the rights to their [rightful] owners.

In this impactful Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of fulfilling the rights and obligations that we owe to others.

And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], 'Do not worship except Allah; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give zakah.' Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.

This verse highlights the obligation to fulfill the rights of parents, relatives, orphans, and the needy. Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.

This verse expands upon the various categories of individuals whose rights we are obligated to fulfill. It emphasizes the importance of being kind and just towards our parents, relatives, orphans, the needy, neighbors, and even those under our care. By fulfilling these rights, we demonstrate true generosity and fulfill our duties as Muslims.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement in the Hadith aligns perfectly with the teachings of the Quran. It reminds us that true generosity is not limited to material giving, but also encompasses fulfilling the rights and obligations we owe to others.
