مِنْ أفْحَشِ الخِيانَةِ خِيانَةُ الوَدائِعِ۔
From the most grievous forms of treachery is being treacherous with trusts or deposits [that one has been entrusted with].

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Treachery And Disloyalty)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,
From the most grievous forms of treachery is being treacherous with trusts or deposits [that one has been entrusted with].
This Hadith emphasizes the seriousness of betraying the trust of others, especially when it comes to fulfilling our responsibilities and obligations towards the trusts placed upon us.
The Arabic word (khiyanah) "خِيانَةِ" refers to treachery or betrayal. It encompasses the act of deceiving or breaking the trust of someone who has entrusted us with something valuable or important. The word (wada'ih) "وَدائِعِ" refers to trusts or deposits, which can include both material possessions and intangible responsibilities.
This Hadith highlights the gravity of betraying the trust of others, as it is considered one of the most grievous forms of treachery. It serves as a reminder to Muslims of the importance of fulfilling their obligations and responsibilities towards the trusts placed upon them, whether they are entrusted with material possessions, confidential information, or positions of authority.
The Quran provides us with guidance and support for understanding the significance of fulfilling our trusts and the consequences of betraying them. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:1),
O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts.
This verse emphasizes the importance of fulfilling our agreements and commitments, including the trust placed upon us.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:27), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) warns,
O you who have believed, do not betray Allah and the Messenger or betray your trusts while you know [the consequence].
This verse highlights the severity of betraying trusts, as it is considered a betrayal of Allah and His Messenger (ﷺ).
Betraying trusts can have severe consequences, not only in this world but also in the Hereafter. In Surah Al-Tawbah (9:101), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
And among them are those who made a covenant with Allah, [saying], 'If He should give us from His bounty, we will surely spend in charity, and we will surely be among the righteous.' But when He gave them from His bounty, they were stingy with it and turned away while they refused.
This verse serves as a warning against betraying the trust of Allah by failing to fulfill our promises and obligations. It reminds us that if we are entrusted with blessings and resources, we should use them for the betterment of society and fulfill our responsibilities towards those in need.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, highlights the significance of fulfilling trusts and the severity of betraying them. His words serve as a reminder to Muslims to always act with integrity and honesty, honoring the trust placed upon them by others.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the gravity of betraying the trust of others, especially when it comes to fulfilling our responsibilities and obligations towards the trusts placed upon us. It reminds us of the importance of acting with integrity and honesty, as betraying trusts is considered one of the most grievous forms of treachery. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us to fulfill our trusts and protect us from the consequences of betraying them.
