(Ghurar al-Hikam: Being Pleased And Satisfied)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the significance of being content with the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), as it serves as a sign of Allah's pleasure with His servant. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

The key words in this Hadith are (pleasure of Allah) "رِضَا اللّهِ", (servant) "عَبْدِ", (his satisfaction) "رِضاهُ", (decreed) "قَضى", and (the Glorified) "سُبْحَانَهُ". The term "رِضَا اللّهِ" refers to the pleasure and satisfaction of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), which is the ultimate goal for every believer. "عَبْدِ" signifies the servant, highlighting the relationship between the servant and Allah. "رِضاهُ" denotes the satisfaction of the servant with the decree of Allah, whether it is in his favor or against him. "قَضى" refers to the decree of Allah, encompassing all aspects of life, including both blessings and trials. Finally, "سُبْحَانَهُ" emphasizes the greatness and perfection of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:216),

But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.

This verse highlights the limited knowledge of human beings and the comprehensive knowledge of Allah. Sometimes, what we perceive as unfavorable may actually be beneficial for us in the long run, and vice versa. Therefore, being content with the decree of Allah is an expression of trust in His wisdom and knowledge.

Furthermore, in Surah At-Tawbah (9:51), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Say, 'Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.' And upon Allah let the believers rely.

This verse emphasizes the concept of relying solely on Allah and accepting His decree, recognizing that everything that befalls us is by His will. By submitting to His decree, we strengthen our faith and demonstrate our servitude to Him.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder that our satisfaction with the decree of Allah is not limited to favorable circumstances alone. It encompasses both the blessings and trials that we encounter in life. For instance, when faced with a loss or adversity, a believer should strive to maintain a state of contentment and acceptance, knowing that it is a test from Allah and an opportunity for spiritual growth.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, exemplified this concept throughout his life. Despite facing numerous challenges and hardships, he remained steadfast and content with the decree of Allah. His unwavering trust in Allah's wisdom and his submission to His will serve as a timeless example for all Muslims.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of being content with the decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) as a sign of His pleasure. It encourages us to trust in Allah's wisdom and knowledge, recognizing that He knows what is best for us, even when we may not understand it. By accepting His decree, we demonstrate our servitude and strengthen our faith. May Allah grant us the ability to be content with His decree and may He be pleased with us.
