وَالإسْلامَ أماناً مِنَ المَخاوِفِ۔
Islam [has been prescribed] as a security form dangers.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Islam)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:
وَالإسْلامَ أماناً مِنَ المَخاوِفِ۔
This can be translated as
Islam [has been prescribed] as a security from dangers.
Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this thought-provoking saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in light of the Quran. The word "Islam" in this Hadith refers to the complete submission to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and the adherence to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). It encompasses all aspects of life, including beliefs, actions, and morals.
The word (security) "أماناً" signifies the protection and refuge that Islam provides to its followers. It is a shield against the various fears and dangers that one may encounter in this world and the hereafter. Islam provides a sense of peace, tranquility, and assurance to the believers, knowing that they are under the divine protection of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
The phrase (from dangers) "مِنَ المَخاوِفِ" highlights the wide range of threats and challenges that individuals face in their lives. These dangers can be physical, emotional, spiritual, or even societal. Islam, with its comprehensive teachings, equips Muslims with the necessary guidance and principles to navigate through these challenges and overcome them.
The Quran provides numerous verses that support the concept of Islam as a source of security. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says: (Quran 2:112)
Whoever submits his face to Allah while being a doer of good will have his reward with his Lord. And no fear will there be concerning them, nor will they grieve.
This verse emphasizes that those who submit to Allah and follow His commands will be protected from fear and grief.
Another verse that reinforces the idea of Islam as a source of security is found in Surah Yunus: (Quran 41:30)
Indeed, those who have said, 'Our Lord is Allah' and then remained on a right course - the angels will descend upon them, [saying], 'Do not fear and do not grieve but receive good tidings of Paradise, which you were promised.'
This verse assures the believers that their faith in Allah will be rewarded with the glad tidings of Paradise, and they need not fear or grieve.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement highlights the profound impact that Islam has on the lives of Muslims. By embracing Islam and adhering to its teachings, believers find solace and protection from the various fears and dangers that surround them. Islam provides a framework for individuals to navigate through the challenges of life, guiding them towards righteousness, justice, and moral excellence.
Furthermore, this Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to seek refuge in Islam during times of difficulty and uncertainty. It encourages us to turn to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and rely on His guidance and protection. By following the path of Islam, we can find security and peace in this world and the hereafter.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the role of Islam as a source of security and protection from the various dangers and fears that we encounter in life. It reminds us of the importance of embracing Islam wholeheartedly and seeking refuge in its teachings. By doing so, we can find solace, guidance, and assurance in the face of adversity. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to fully submit to Islam and experience the true security it offers.
