Verily Allah, the Exalted, made an appraisal of the world and (from it) chose us, and He chose for us followers who would help us, be happy in our happiness and sad in our sadness, and give up their lives and wealth for our sake they are ones who are (considered to be) from us and unto us, and they will be with us in the gardens (of Paradise).

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Muhammad (S) And His Progeny)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the special status and selection of the Ahl al-Bayt by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) surveyed the earth and chose the Ahl al-Bayt, including himself, as the chosen ones. Moreover, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) selected a group of followers for them who would support and assist them, rejoicing in their happiness and grieving in their sorrow. These followers are described as those who would sacrifice their lives and wealth for the sake of the Ahl al-Bayt. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) affirms that these followers are considered to be from the Ahl al-Bayt and belong to them, and they will be united with them in Paradise.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for further guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the special status and selection of the Ahl al-Bayt in several verses. In Surah Al-Ahzab, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (33:33)

Indeed, Allah wants to keep away impurity from you, O Ahl al-Bayt, and purify you with a thorough purification

This verse clearly indicates that the Ahl al-Bayt have been chosen by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) for a special purpose and have been granted a unique status of purity and righteousness.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ma'idah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) reveals, (42:23)

Say, 'I do not ask you for any payment for this [message], except love for [my] relatives.' And whoever earns good, We increase for him good therein. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Appreciative

This verse emphasizes the importance of showing love and affection towards the Ahl al-Bayt, as it is a means of attaining Allah's (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) pleasure and increasing one's own goodness.

The followers mentioned in the Hadith are described as those who would be happy in the happiness of the Ahl al-Bayt and sad in their sorrow. This highlights the deep emotional connection and empathy that these followers would have towards the Ahl al-Bayt. They would genuinely share in their joys and sorrows, demonstrating their unwavering loyalty and devotion.

Moreover, the Hadith mentions that these followers would be willing to sacrifice their lives and wealth for the sake of the Ahl al-Bayt. This exemplifies the selflessness and dedication of these individuals, who would prioritize the well-being and cause of the Ahl al-Bayt over their own personal interests. Such sacrifice is a reflection of the highest level of faith and love for the Ahl al-Bayt.

The consequences of being among the followers of the Ahl al-Bayt are immense. The Hadith states that these followers are considered to be from the Ahl al-Bayt and belong to them. This indicates that they share in the spiritual and moral qualities of the Ahl al-Bayt and are considered part of their noble lineage. Additionally, the Hadith affirms that these followers will be united with the Ahl al-Bayt in Paradise, enjoying the eternal bliss and proximity to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the special selection and status of the Ahl al-Bayt by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It emphasizes the importance of having a deep emotional connection, loyalty, and sacrifice for the Ahl al-Bayt. The followers of the Ahl al-Bayt are promised a place with them in Paradise, reflecting the immense rewards and blessings that await those who sincerely follow and support the Ahl al-Bayt. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to be true followers of the Ahl al-Bayt and unite us with them in the gardens of Paradise.
