Indeed the protectors of the religion of Allah are the only ones who establish the religion, support it, surround it from all sides and protect it for the servants of Allah and safeguard it.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Muhammad (S) And His Progeny)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of being the protectors of the religion of Allah. Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding.
The term (al-mustahfazoon) "المُسْتَحْفَظُونَ" refers to those who protect or safeguard something. In this context, it refers to individuals who take upon themselves the responsibility of safeguarding the religion of Allah. They are the ones who ensure that the teachings of Islam are preserved, upheld, and transmitted to others.
The word (lidiinillah) "لِديْنِ اللّهِ" means
for the religion of Allah.
It signifies that the protectors of the religion are solely dedicated to preserving and upholding the teachings and principles of Islam. Their actions are motivated by their deep faith and commitment to Allah's guidance.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) further describes the qualities of these protectors. They are the ones who (aqamoo ad-deen) "أقامُوا الدّينَ", meaning they establish the religion. This implies that they not only adhere to the teachings of Islam themselves but also actively promote and encourage others to do the same. They strive to establish the principles of Islam in their personal lives and in society as a whole.
Additionally, the protectors of the religion (nasaroo) "نَصَرُوهُ", meaning they support it. They stand by the religion of Allah in times of difficulty and adversity. They defend it against any distortions, misinterpretations, or attacks. Their unwavering support is a testament to their commitment to the truth and their dedication to upholding the principles of Islam.
Furthermore, these protectors (haatoo-hu min jamee'i jawanibihi)
حاطُوهُ مِنْ جَمِيعِ جَوانِبِهِ
which means they surround it from all sides. This indicates that they protect the religion of Allah comprehensively, leaving no room for any weaknesses or vulnerabilities. They are vigilant in safeguarding the teachings of Islam from any form of corruption or deviation.
Lastly, the protectors of the religion (hafizoo-hu 'ala 'ibaadillahi wara'aw-hu)
حَفِظُوهُ على عِبادِ اللّهِ ورَعَوْهُ
meaning they protect it for the servants of Allah and safeguard it. This highlights their responsibility to preserve the religion for the benefit of all Muslims. They ensure that the teachings of Islam are accessible, understood, and practiced by the believers. Their efforts contribute to the spiritual growth and well-being of the Muslim community.
To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for further guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hajj (22:41),
Those who, if We give them authority in the land, establish prayer and give Zakah and enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong.
This verse emphasizes the importance of establishing the religion of Allah by fulfilling its obligations, such as prayer and charity, and promoting righteousness while forbidding evil.
In Surah Al-Imran (3:104), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.
This verse highlights the duty of Muslims to actively invite others towards goodness and righteousness, while discouraging and preventing evil. It is through such efforts that the protectors of the religion fulfill their role in establishing and safeguarding the religion of Allah.
The consequences of neglecting the responsibility of protecting the religion can be seen in the decline and corruption of societies throughout history. When individuals fail to establish and support the religion, it becomes vulnerable to distortion, misinterpretation, and abandonment. This leads to the erosion of moral values, the spread of ignorance, and the weakening of the Muslim community.
On the other hand, when individuals take upon themselves the task of protecting the religion, they contribute to the preservation and propagation of Islam. Their actions inspire others to embrace the teachings of Islam, leading to the strengthening and flourishing of the Muslim community. They become beacons of guidance, guiding others towards the path of righteousness and ensuring the continuity of the religion for future generations.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the crucial role of the protectors of the religion of Allah. They are the ones who establish, support, surround, and safeguard the teachings of Islam. Their dedication and commitment contribute to the preservation and propagation of the religion, ensuring its continuity and vitality. As Muslims, it is our duty to strive to be among the protectors of the religion, upholding its principles and promoting its values in our lives and in society. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the knowledge, wisdom, and strength to fulfill this noble responsibility.
