(Ghurar al-Hikam: Blessing)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of showing the effects of the blessings bestowed upon us by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Let us delve into the exegesis of this beautiful saying and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

The word (athar) "أثَرُ" in the Hadith refers to the visible traces or effects of something. It signifies that the blessings bestowed upon us by Allah should not remain hidden or concealed, but rather they should manifest in our actions, behavior, and character. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges us to let the world witness the impact of Allah's blessings upon us.

This concept is beautifully echoed in the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) encourages us to display the effects of His blessings. In Surah Al-Isra, verse 80, Allah says,

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This verse highlights the importance of seeking Allah's assistance to demonstrate the effects of His blessings in our lives.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas, verse 77, Allah says,

But seek, with the (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on thee, the Home of the Hereafter, nor forget thy portion in this world: but do thou good, as Allah has been good to thee, and seek not (occasions for) mischief in the land: for Allah loves not those who do mischief.

This verse emphasizes that we should utilize the blessings bestowed upon us by Allah to do good and seek the rewards of the Hereafter, while also fulfilling our responsibilities in this world.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder for us to reflect upon the blessings we have received from Allah and to ensure that they are not wasted or hidden. It encourages us to be grateful for these blessings and to utilize them in a manner that benefits ourselves and others.

By displaying the effects of Allah's blessings, we become a source of inspiration and guidance for others. Our actions and behavior become a testament to the greatness and generosity of Allah, attracting others towards the path of righteousness. This aligns with the Quranic verse in Surah Al-Hajj, verse 41, where Allah says,

Those who, if We establish them in the land, establish regular prayer and give regular charity, enjoin the right and forbid wrong: with Allah rests the end (and decision) of (all) affairs.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) exhortation also serves as a motivation for us to strive for excellence in all aspects of our lives. When we recognize that our blessings are a trust from Allah, we are compelled to utilize them to their fullest potential. This mindset encourages us to constantly improve ourselves, seek knowledge, and contribute positively to society.

Moreover, displaying the effects of Allah's blessings can have profound consequences on our spiritual growth. When we actively demonstrate gratitude and utilize our blessings in a righteous manner, we strengthen our relationship with Allah and increase our proximity to Him. This is beautifully illustrated in Surah Al-Nahl, verse 97, where Allah says,

Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter).

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges us to let the effects of Allah's blessings be seen on us. By displaying gratitude, utilizing our blessings for good, and striving for excellence, we not only fulfill our responsibilities as Muslims but also become a source of inspiration and guidance for others. May Allah grant us the ability to manifest the effects of His blessings in our lives and may He bless us with steadfastness on the path of righteousness.
