(Ghurar al-Hikam: Remembrance [Of Allah] And The Reminder)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The remembrance of Allah is the pillar of faith and a protection against Satan.

Let us delve into the profound meanings of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

Firstly, let us examine the key words in this Hadith. The word (dhikr) "ذِكْرُ" refers to the remembrance of Allah, which encompasses various forms such as reciting His names, praising Him, and seeking His forgiveness. (diʿāmah) "دِعَامَةُ" means pillar or support, indicating that the remembrance of Allah is the foundation upon which faith is built. (al-īmān) "الإِيمَانِ" refers to faith, encompassing belief in the heart, affirmation with the tongue, and righteous actions. Lastly, (ʿiṣmah) "عِصْمَةٌ" means protection or immunity, signifying that the remembrance of Allah shields us from the whispers and temptations of Satan.

The Quran beautifully supports the message of this Hadith. In Surah Al-Ankabut (29:45), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.

This verse emphasizes the significance of remembrance, highlighting its power to prevent us from falling into sin and transgression. By constantly remembering Allah, we strengthen our faith and protect ourselves from the snares of Satan.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Jumu'ah (62:10), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.

Here, Allah encourages us to remember Him abundantly after the congregational prayer, emphasizing that consistent remembrance leads to success in this life and the Hereafter. It is through the remembrance of Allah that our faith is fortified, and we find tranquility and contentment.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that the remembrance of Allah is not only a means of strengthening our faith but also a shield against the whispers and temptations of Satan. When we engage in constant remembrance, our hearts are filled with the love and fear of Allah, making us less susceptible to the deceptive tactics of Shaytan. By remembering Allah, we develop a heightened awareness of His presence, and this consciousness acts as a protective barrier against evil.

For example, when we remember Allah before embarking on a task, we seek His guidance and protection, ensuring that our actions are aligned with His will. Similarly, when we face challenges or temptations, the remembrance of Allah serves as a reminder of our purpose and the consequences of our choices. It strengthens our resolve to resist temptations and empowers us to make righteous decisions.

Moreover, the remembrance of Allah brings about a profound transformation within us. It purifies our hearts, cleanses our souls, and instills a sense of humility and gratitude. It reminds us of our dependence on Allah and our need for His mercy and forgiveness. As we immerse ourselves in His remembrance, we become more conscious of our actions, striving to align them with His commands and seeking His pleasure above all else.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the pivotal role of the remembrance of Allah in strengthening our faith and protecting us from the influence of Satan. Through the remembrance of Allah, we find solace, guidance, and protection. It is a constant reminder of our purpose in this world and a means to attain success in both this life and the Hereafter. Let us strive to make the remembrance of Allah an integral part of our lives, for it is through this remembrance that we draw closer to Him and find true peace and fulfillment. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to remember Him abundantly and protect us from the whispers of Shaytan.
