Hadith #4113

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The remembrance of Allah is the pillar of faith and a protection against Satan.

Let us delve into the profound meanings of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

Firstly, let us examine the key words in this Hadith. The word (dhikr) "ذِكْرُ" refers to the remembrance of Allah, which encompasses various forms such as reciting His names, praising Him, and seeking His forgiveness. (diʿāmah) "دِعَامَةُ" means pillar or support, indicating that the remembrance of Allah is the foundation upon which faith is built. (al-īmān) "الإِيمَانِ" refers to faith, encompassing belief in the heart, affirmation with the tongue, and righteous actions. Lastly, (ʿiṣmah) "عِصْمَةٌ" means protection or immunity, signifying that the remembrance of Allah shields us from the whispers and temptations of Satan.

The Quran beautifully supports the message of this Hadith. In Surah Al-Ankabut (29:45), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.

This verse emphasizes the significance of remembrance, highlighting its power to prevent us from falling into sin and transgression. By constantly remembering Allah, we strengthen our faith and protect ourselves from the snares of Satan.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Jumu'ah (62:10), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.

Here, Allah encourages us to remember Him abundantly after the congregational prayer, emphasizing that consistent remembrance leads to success in this life and the Hereafter. It is through the remembrance of Allah that our faith is fortified, and we find tranquility and contentment.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that the remembrance of Allah is not only a means of strengthening our faith but also a shield against the whispers and temptations of Satan.
