ذِكْرُ اللّهِ رَأسُ مالِ كُلِّ مُؤْمِن، ورِبْحُهُ السَّلامَةُ مِنَ الشَّيطانِ۔
Remembrance of Allah is the [principal] asset of every believer and its profit is safety against Satan.
— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Remembrance [Of Allah] And The Reminder)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds, and blessings be upon Muhammad (ﷺ) and his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, as well as his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the significance of remembrance of Allah (ذِكْرُ اللّهِ) for every believer. The word (dhikr) "ذِكْرُ" refers to the act of remembering or mentioning Allah, and it encompasses various forms of worship, such as recitation of the Quran, supplication, and praising Allah. It is the means by which believers establish a strong connection with their Creator and seek His guidance and blessings.
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) describes the remembrance of Allah as the (ra'su mal kulli mu'min)
رَأسُ مالِ كُلِّ مُؤْمِن
which can be translated as the "principal asset" or the "head of wealth" of every believer. This metaphorical expression highlights the immense value and importance of remembrance of Allah in the life of a believer. Just as the head is the most vital part of the body, the remembrance of Allah is the most essential aspect of a believer's spiritual wealth and well-being.
To further understand the significance of remembrance of Allah, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. In Surah Al-Ra'd (13:28), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,
Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah, hearts are assured.
This verse highlights that the remembrance of Allah brings tranquility and peace to the hearts of believers. It is through the remembrance of Allah that believers find solace and contentment, as it strengthens their faith and provides them with a sense of security and protection against the whispers of Satan.
Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:45), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,
Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.
This verse emphasizes that the remembrance of Allah holds a higher rank than even the act of prayer in terms of its ability to prevent one from engaging in immoral and wrongful actions. It serves as a shield against the temptations of Satan and acts as a constant reminder of one's duties and obligations towards Allah.
The consequences of neglecting the remembrance of Allah are severe. When a believer fails to engage in the remembrance of Allah, they become vulnerable to the whispers and influence of Satan. Satan's primary objective is to lead people astray and distance them from the path of righteousness. By neglecting the remembrance of Allah, believers expose themselves to the deceptive tactics of Satan, which can lead to spiritual decline and deviation from the straight path.
On the other hand, when a believer actively engages in the remembrance of Allah, they fortify their spiritual defenses and safeguard themselves against Satan's influence. The remembrance of Allah acts as a shield that protects believers from falling into sin and guides them towards righteousness. It strengthens their connection with Allah and enables them to navigate through the challenges and trials of life with steadfastness and resilience.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the significance of the remembrance of Allah for every believer. It is the principal asset that enriches the spiritual wealth of a believer and ensures their safety against the whispers and temptations of Satan. By actively engaging in the remembrance of Allah, believers find tranquility, strengthen their faith, and protect themselves from spiritual decline. May Allah grant us the ability to remember Him constantly and seek His guidance in all aspects of our lives.
