Hadith #5159

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The honour of a man is his integrity and his beauty is his magnanimity.

This profound statement highlights the importance of two qualities in a person's character: integrity and magnanimity.

Firstly, let us delve into the meaning of the word "integrity" in this context. The Arabic word used in the Hadith is "nazahah," which refers to purity, sincerity, and uprightness. It encompasses being honest, trustworthy, and having a strong moral compass. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the significance of integrity in the Quran when He says, (Quran 4:58)

Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice

This verse emphasizes the importance of fulfilling one's responsibilities and being just in all dealings. A person of integrity is someone who upholds their commitments, fulfills their promises, and acts with fairness and honesty. Such individuals are highly respected in society and are seen as trustworthy and reliable.

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) encourages magnanimity in the Quran when He says, (Quran 24:22)

And let not those of virtue among you and wealth swear not to give [aid] to their relatives and the needy and the emigrants for the cause of Allah. Rather, let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?

This verse highlights the importance of being generous and forgiving, especially towards those in need. A person who possesses magnanimity is not only generous with their wealth but also with their time, knowledge, and forgiveness. They are willing to go above and beyond to help others and forgive those who have wronged them, displaying a beautiful and noble character.
