Hadith #7632

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

اِعْمَلُوا لِيَوْم تُذْخَرُ لَهُ الذَّخائِرُ، وتُبْلى فيهِ السَّرائِرُ۔

This Hadith can be translated as,

Work for the day for which the provisions have been stored and in which the secrets will be revealed.

Let us delve into the meaning of some important words in this Hadith. The word (dakhair) "ذخائر" refers to treasures or provisions that have been stored or accumulated. It signifies the rewards and blessings that await the believers in the hereafter. The word (sara'ir) "سرائر" refers to secrets or hidden matters. In this context, it refers to the hidden intentions, actions, and deeds of individuals that will be exposed on the Day of Judgment.

To understand the wise message of this Hadith, we turn to the Quran, which provides guidance and clarification on various aspects of our faith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-An'am (6:59),

And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.

This verse reminds us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the Knower of the unseen and the Manifest. He is aware of every hidden aspect of our lives, including our intentions and actions. Nothing escapes His knowledge, and everything is recorded in a clear and comprehensive manner.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of working for the day when the provisions, or rewards, that have been stored for the believers will be unveiled. This refers to the Day of Judgment, when the true value of our deeds will be revealed and rewarded accordingly. It serves as a reminder that our actions in this world have consequences in the hereafter.

Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Imran (3:30),

The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants.

This verse highlights the reality that on the Day of Judgment, every individual will witness the true nature of their deeds. The believers will rejoice in the provisions and rewards they have accumulated through their righteous actions, while the disbelievers and wrongdoers will regret their choices and wish for a great distance between themselves and their evil deeds.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a motivation for us to strive for righteousness and to be mindful of our intentions and actions. It reminds us that our deeds are not in vain and that they will be accounted for on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, we should work diligently to accumulate provisions for the hereafter by performing acts of worship, seeking knowledge, helping others, and practicing good character.

Furthermore, this Hadith urges us to reflect upon the secrets that will be revealed on the Day of Judgment. Our hidden intentions, thoughts, and actions will be exposed, and we will be held accountable for them. This should encourage us to purify our hearts, rectify our intentions, and strive for sincerity in all our endeavors.
