(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Qur’an)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of holding fast to the rope of the Qur'an, seeking guidance and counsel from it. The word (تَمَسَّكْ) "tamassak" means to hold firmly or cling to something, and in this context, it refers to holding firmly onto the teachings and guidance of the Qur'an.

The term (حَبْلِ) "habl" in Arabic means a rope or a cord, and in this Hadith, it symbolizes the Qur'an, which is the ultimate source of guidance for all Muslims. Just as a rope provides support and stability, the Qur'an provides us with the guidance and direction we need in our lives.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advises us to take counsel from the Qur'an, meaning that we should seek guidance and wisdom from its verses. The Qur'an is not merely a book to be recited, but it is a source of profound wisdom and guidance. It contains solutions to our problems, guidance for our actions, and answers to our questions. By seeking counsel from the Qur'an, we can make informed decisions and seek guidance in every aspect of our lives.

To further emphasize the importance of the Qur'an, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) instructs us to consider as permissible what it permits and forbidden what it forbids. This means that we should adhere to the teachings and rulings of the Qur'an, following its commandments and staying away from its prohibitions. The Qur'an is a comprehensive guide that covers all aspects of life, including personal conduct, social interactions, and matters of faith. By adhering to its teachings, we can ensure that our actions are in line with the principles of Islam.

The Qur'an itself supports the importance of holding fast to its teachings. In Surah Al-Imran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 3:103)

And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided

This verse emphasizes the unity and strength that comes from holding onto the teachings of the Qur'an. When Muslims adhere to the Qur'an, they are united in their beliefs and actions, and this unity strengthens the Muslim community as a whole.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ma'idah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 4:59)

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you

This verse highlights the importance of following the teachings of the Qur'an and the guidance of the Prophet Muhammad () and his successors. By adhering to the teachings of the Qur'an, we are also following the guidance of the Prophet and his Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ).

Acting on the injunctions and rulings of the Qur'an is not merely a matter of fulfilling religious obligations, but it also has profound consequences in our lives. By following the teachings of the Qur'an, we can attain success and prosperity in this world and the hereafter. The Qur'an provides us with guidance on how to lead a righteous and fulfilling life, and by adhering to its teachings, we can attain peace, contentment, and success in both our worldly and spiritual endeavors.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his deep knowledge and understanding of the Qur'an, encourages us to hold fast to its teachings, seek counsel from it, and act upon its injunctions and rulings. By doing so, we can ensure that our actions are in accordance with the teachings of Islam and that we are on the path of righteousness. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to hold fast to the rope of the Qur'an and seek guidance from its verses.
