قَدْ ذَهَبَ مِنْكُمْ الذّاكِرُونَ، والمُتَذَكِّرُونَ، وَبَقيَ النّاسُونَ وَالمُتَناسُونَ۔

Indeed those who [would] remember and remind [the people about Allah] have left you and only those who forget [Allah and the Day of Resurrection] and cause others to forget have remained behind.

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights a profound reality about the state of the people. It begins by stating,

Indeed those who [would] remember and remind [the people about Allah] have left you.

Here, the word (dhaakiroon) "ذَاكِرُونَ" refers to those who actively engage in the remembrance of Allah and remind others to do the same. These individuals possess a deep connection with Allah and strive to keep His remembrance alive in their hearts and in the hearts of others.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) then continues,

and only those who forget [Allah and the Day of Resurrection] and cause others to forget have remained behind.

The word (naasoon) "نَاسُونَ" refers to those who have forgotten Allah and the Day of Resurrection. They have become heedless and neglectful of their spiritual duties. Furthermore, they actively contribute to the forgetfulness of others, leading them away from the remembrance of Allah.

To understand the impactful message of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Ra'd (13:28),

Those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of Allah. Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah, hearts are assured.

This verse emphasizes the importance of remembering Allah and its impact on the tranquility and assurance of the believers' hearts. The (dhaakiroon) "ذَاكِرُونَ" mentioned in the Hadith are those who find solace and contentment in the remembrance of Allah.

In Surah Al-Jumu'ah (62:10), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

And when the prayer has been concluded, disperse within the land and seek from the bounty of Allah, and remember Allah often that you may succeed.

This verse highlights the connection between remembrance of Allah and success. The (dhaakiroon) "ذَاكِرُونَ" mentioned in the Hadith are those who actively engage in the remembrance of Allah, seeking His blessings and guidance in all aspects of their lives.

On the other hand, the Quran also warns against forgetting Allah and becoming negligent in our spiritual duties. In Surah Al-Hashr (59:19), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And be not like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient.

This verse serves as a reminder of the consequences of forgetting Allah. When individuals neglect their relationship with Allah, they lose sight of their own purpose and become disobedient.

Reflecting on the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in light of these Quranic verses, we understand that the departure of the (dhaakiroon) "ذَاكِرُونَ" signifies the loss of individuals who were actively engaged in the remembrance of Allah and reminding others to do the same. Their absence leaves a void, allowing those who forget Allah and cause others to forget to dominate. This Hadith serves as a warning to Muslims, reminding them of the importance of actively engaging in the remembrance of Allah and striving to keep His remembrance alive in their lives and the lives of others.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the significance of remembering Allah and the consequences of forgetting Him. It urges Muslims to be among the (dhaakiroon) "ذَاكِرُونَ", who actively engage in the remembrance of Allah and remind others to do the same. By doing so, we can find tranquility, success, and protection from becoming negligent in our spiritual duties. May Allah guide us all to be among the remembrance of Him and to be a source of guidance for others.
