Follow the light that is not put out and the face that does not become old, and surrender and submit to its command, for indeed you will not go astray with submission [to it].

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of following the light that never fades and the face that never grows old. It urges Muslims to surrender and submit to the command of this light, as it is the path that guarantees guidance and prevents one from going astray.

Let us delve deeper into the words used in this Hadith. The word (noor) "نور" refers to light, specifically the divine light that illuminates the path of righteousness and knowledge. It symbolizes the guidance and enlightenment that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) bestows upon His creation. The word (wajh) "وَجْه" means face, but in this context, it signifies the essence or source of guidance and wisdom. It represents the divine presence and authority that never diminishes or fades away.

To understand the essence of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah An-Nur (24:35):

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The example of His light is like a niche within which is a lamp, the lamp is within glass, the glass as if it were a pearly [white] star lit from [the oil of] a blessed olive tree, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil would almost glow even if untouched by fire. Light upon light. Allah guides to His light whom He wills. And Allah presents examples for the people, and Allah is Knowing of all things.

This ayah beautifully illustrates the concept of divine light, which is the ultimate source of guidance and knowledge. It is Allah's light that illuminates the path for humanity, leading them towards righteousness and away from darkness. This light is not limited by time, place, or any external factors. It is eternal and unchanging, just like the face mentioned in the Hadith.

Additionally, the Quran emphasizes the importance of surrendering and submitting to the command of Allah. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:208), Allah says:

O you who have believed, enter into peace completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

This verse encourages Muslims to submit wholeheartedly to the commandments of Allah, without any reservations or compromises. It is through this complete submission that one finds true peace and protection from the whispers of Satan. Similarly, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges Muslims to surrender and submit to the command of the divine light, as it is the path that guarantees guidance and prevents one from going astray.

By following the light that never fades and the face that never grows old, Muslims are guided towards the truth and protected from the pitfalls of misguidance. This guidance leads to a life of righteousness, piety, and fulfillment. It enables individuals to navigate the challenges of this world and strive towards the ultimate goal of attaining the pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder for Muslims to follow the divine light and submit to its command. It emphasizes the eternal nature of this light and the unwavering guidance it provides. By surrendering to this light, Muslims are assured of staying on the right path and avoiding the perils of misguidance. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom and strength to follow the light and seek His pleasure.
