— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Wealth And Riches)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the Hereafter over worldly possessions. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advises us to send forth our wealth for our Hereafter, meaning to invest in acts of worship and charity that will benefit us in the afterlife. This is a reminder for us to not be overly attached to material possessions and to focus on accumulating good deeds that will bring us closer to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

The phrase

leave [the affair of] your heirs in the hands of Allah

highlights the importance of trust in Allah's divine wisdom and justice. It implies that we should not overly concern ourselves with the distribution of our wealth and inheritance, but rather entrust it to Allah, who will take care of those whom we leave behind. This does not mean neglecting our responsibilities towards our family, but rather recognizing that our ultimate reliance should be on Allah and His guidance.

To further understand the wisdom behind this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:264):

O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury as does one who spends his wealth [only] to be seen by the people and does not believe in Allah and the Last Day.

This verse emphasizes the importance of sincerity in our acts of charity and worship. It warns against seeking recognition and praise from others, as it diminishes the reward and purpose of our deeds. Instead, we should focus on pleasing Allah and seeking His pleasure alone. By sending forth our wealth for the Hereafter, we ensure that our intentions are pure and our actions are solely for the sake of Allah.

Another verse that complements the teachings of this Hadith is found in Surah Al-Isra (17:80):

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This verse highlights the importance of seeking Allah's assistance and guidance in all aspects of our lives. By entrusting our affairs to Allah and relying on His sustenance, we can find tranquility and success in both this world and the Hereafter. It is a reminder that true felicity lies in seeking Allah's pleasure and relying on His divine wisdom.

Reflecting on the Hadith, we can understand that prioritizing the Hereafter over worldly possessions brings numerous benefits. By investing in acts of worship and charity, we not only secure our own salvation but also leave a positive legacy for those whom we leave behind. When we prioritize the Hereafter, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) takes care of our affairs and ensures that our heirs are provided for in the best possible manner.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of detachment from worldly possessions and the significance of relying on Allah's divine wisdom and care. This Hadith serves as a reminder to Muslims to focus on the eternal rewards of the Hereafter and to trust in Allah's plan for our lives. By sending forth our wealth for the Hereafter and entrusting our affairs to Allah, we can attain true felicity and leave a lasting impact on the generations to come.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom and guidance to prioritize the Hereafter and to trust in His divine plan. May He bless us with the ability to send forth our wealth for our eternal benefit and to leave a positive legacy for our heirs. Ameen.
