(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Truth)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

طَلَبُ التَّعاوُنِ عَلى إقامَةِ الحَقِّ دِيانَةٌ وأمانَةٌ۔

This can be translated as,

Seeking assistance to establish the truth is [a sign of] faith and uprightness.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this beautiful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and explore its significance in light of the Quran.

The word (talabu) "طَلَبُ" means seeking or asking for something. In this context, it refers to seeking assistance or support. The word (ta'awuni) "التَّعاوُنِ" means cooperation or mutual help. It emphasizes the importance of working together and supporting one another. The phrase (ala iqamati al-haqq) "عَلى إقامَةِ الحَقِّ" means to establish the truth. It signifies the act of upholding and promoting what is right and just. Finally, the words (diyanah wa amanah) "دِيانَةٌ وأمانَةٌ" refer to faith and uprightness.

To understand the depth of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 2:

And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.

This verse emphasizes the importance of seeking assistance in matters of righteousness and piety, which aligns perfectly with the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ).

Furthermore, the Quran encourages believers to stand up for the truth and support one another in doing so. In Surah Al-Imran, verse 104, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.

This verse highlights the importance of collective efforts in establishing the truth and spreading goodness.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith emphasizes that seeking assistance to establish the truth is not only a sign of faith but also a reflection of one's integrity and uprightness. It implies that a true believer is not content with merely acknowledging the truth but actively seeks to establish it in society. This can be done through various means, such as promoting justice, fighting against oppression, and advocating for the rights of the marginalized.

By seeking assistance to establish the truth, Muslims demonstrate their commitment to the principles of Islam and their responsibility as believers. It requires courage, determination, and a deep understanding of the teachings of the Quran. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, exemplified this through his actions and teachings.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that seeking assistance to establish the truth is not only a sign of faith but also a reflection of one's integrity and uprightness. It urges Muslims to work together, cooperate, and support one another in upholding what is right and just. By doing so, we fulfill our duty as believers and contribute to the betterment of society. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all in seeking assistance to establish the truth and grant us success in our endeavors.
