Hadith #3823

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of detaching ourselves from the materialistic attractions of this world and instead focusing our attention and efforts towards the eternal life of the Hereafter. Let us delve deeper into the meaning and significance of this beautiful saying in light of the Quran.

The word (nuzzahan) "نُزّاهاً" in the Hadith refers to being uninterested or disinterested in the worldly affairs. It implies that we should not be consumed by the pursuit of worldly possessions, status, and desires. This concept of detachment from the worldly life is beautifully echoed in the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Kahf (18:46):

Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.

This verse reminds us that the material possessions and worldly achievements are merely temporary adornments, while the deeds we perform for the sake of Allah will have everlasting rewards.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hadid (57:20), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states:

Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris.

This verse serves as a powerful reminder that the attractions of this world are transient and fleeting. They may bring temporary pleasure and satisfaction, but they will eventually wither away, leaving behind nothing but debris.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) instruction to be infatuated with the Hereafter implies that we should prioritize our spiritual growth, our connection with Allah, and our preparation for the eternal life to come. This does not mean that we should completely neglect our worldly responsibilities, but rather, we should approach them with a mindset that aligns with the principles of the Hereafter.

The Quran provides us with numerous examples of individuals who were deeply committed to the Hereafter. Prophet Ibrahim (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), for instance, demonstrated his detachment from worldly possessions when he was willing to sacrifice his own son, Ismail (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), in obedience to Allah's command. This act of complete submission and prioritizing the Hereafter over worldly attachments serves as a timeless example for all Muslims.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges us to detach ourselves from the allurements of this world and instead focus on the eternal life of the Hereafter. By prioritizing our spiritual growth, connecting with Allah, and performing righteous deeds, we can attain true success and everlasting happiness.
