(Ghurar al-Hikam: Obedience And Compliance)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

Whoever obeys Allah, the Glorified, his support becomes powerful.

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of obedience to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and highlights the profound consequences that follow.

Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding. The word (ata'a) "أطاعَ" translates to "obeys" or "follows." It signifies complete submission and compliance to the commands of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). The word (Allah) "اللّهَ" refers to the Almighty, the One and Only God, who is worthy of all worship and obedience. (subhanahu) "سُبْحَانَهُ" is an attribute of Allah, meaning "Glorified" or "Exalted." It highlights the perfection and transcendence of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Lastly, (azza) "عَزَّ" denotes strength, power, and might.

To further comprehend the significance of this Hadith, we turn to the Quran, the ultimate source of guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states in Surah An-Nahl (16:128),

Indeed, Allah is with those who fear Him and those who are doers of good.

This verse highlights that Allah's support and assistance are granted to those who fear Him and engage in righteous actions. By obeying Allah, individuals establish a strong connection with Him, and in turn, Allah grants them His divine support and protection.

Another verse that aligns with the message of the Hadith is found in Surah Muhammad (47:7), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

O you who have believed, if you support Allah, He will support you and plant firmly your feet.

This verse emphasizes the reciprocal nature of Allah's support. When individuals support and obey Allah, He reciprocates by granting them His unwavering support and stability in their affairs.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder of the profound consequences that follow obedience to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). When individuals submit themselves entirely to the will of Allah, their support becomes powerful. This power manifests in various aspects of their lives.

Firstly, obedience to Allah strengthens one's faith and spirituality. By adhering to the commandments of Allah and following the teachings of Islam, individuals experience a deep sense of connection with their Creator. This connection brings about inner peace, contentment, and a heightened awareness of the divine presence in their lives.

Secondly, obedience to Allah leads to moral and ethical excellence. When Muslims strive to follow the guidance of Allah, they develop virtuous qualities such as honesty, compassion, and justice. These qualities not only benefit individuals on a personal level but also contribute to the betterment of society as a whole.

Furthermore, obedience to Allah empowers individuals to overcome challenges and adversities. When faced with difficulties, those who have a strong relationship with Allah find solace and strength in their faith. They trust in Allah's wisdom and rely on His support to navigate through life's trials.

Moreover, obedience to Allah strengthens the Muslim community as a whole. When individuals collectively submit to the will of Allah, they unite under a common purpose and shared values. This unity fosters a sense of brotherhood and cooperation, enabling Muslims to work together towards the betterment of society and the establishment of justice.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the immense power and support that individuals receive when they obey Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By adhering to the commandments of Allah, individuals strengthen their faith, develop moral excellence, overcome challenges, and contribute to the betterment of society. May we all strive to be obedient to Allah and experience the powerful support that comes with it.
