Hadith #7214

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

العاقلُ من بَذَلَ نَداهُ

which translates to

The intelligent person is one who spreads his generosity.

In this Hadith, there are two important words that require our attention, (intelligent) "عاقل" and (generosity) "نداهُ".

The word "عاقل" refers to a person who possesses wisdom, understanding, and intellect. It is someone who has the ability to think critically, make sound judgments, and act wisely. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is emphasizing the importance of intelligence and wisdom in this Hadith.

The word "نداهُ" refers to one's wealth, possessions, or resources. It signifies the act of giving and spreading generosity. It encompasses not only material wealth but also includes sharing knowledge, time, and compassion with others. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is highlighting the significance of using one's resources for the benefit of others.

To understand the impactful message of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the virtue of generosity and its rewards. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (Quran 2:245)

Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned

This verse highlights the concept of giving generously and the promise of multiplied rewards from Allah.

Another verse in Surah Al-Balad states, (Quran 90:14)

And [they are] those who give food - in spite of their own need, to the needy, the orphan, and the captive

This verse emphasizes the importance of selflessness and giving, even when one is in need themselves. It encourages Muslims to prioritize the well-being of others and to share their resources with those less fortunate.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith aligns perfectly with the teachings of the Quran. It reminds us that true intelligence lies in using our resources to benefit others. By spreading our generosity, whether it be through financial aid, knowledge sharing, or acts of kindness, we not only uplift those in need but also purify our own souls.

When we give generously, we create a ripple effect of positive change in society. Our actions inspire others to follow suit, creating a culture of compassion and empathy. Furthermore, the act of giving brings immense satisfaction and contentment to the giver. It strengthens our connection with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and increases our blessings in this world and the Hereafter.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, exemplified this Hadith in his own life. He was renowned for his generosity and selflessness, always prioritizing the needs of others above his own. His actions were a reflection of his deep understanding of the teachings of Islam and his commitment to following the path of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that true intelligence lies in spreading our generosity. By utilizing our resources for the betterment of others, we not only fulfill our duty as Muslims but also attain personal growth and spiritual fulfillment.
