(Ghurar al-Hikam: Fulfilling Needs)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "تَعْجِيلُ السَّراحِ نَجاحٌ۔" This can be translated as,

Expediting the release [of the needy from his need] is [a means of] success.

Let us delve into the profound wisdom behind this statement in light of the Quran.

The word (ta'jeel) "تَعْجِيلُ" refers to the act of hastening or expediting something. It implies taking swift action and not delaying in fulfilling the needs of others. The term (saraah) "السَّراحِ" can be understood as the release or liberation from a difficult situation or need. It encompasses the idea of providing relief and assistance to those who are in distress or facing hardships.

To understand the significance of expediting the release of the needy, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of helping those in need and the rewards associated with it. In Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah says, (Quran 2:195)

And spend in the way of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction [by refraining]. And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.

This verse highlights the obligation of Muslims to spend their wealth for the sake of Allah and to help those in need. By expediting the release of the needy, we are fulfilling this duty and demonstrating our love for Allah. Moreover, Allah promises immense rewards for those who engage in acts of charity and assistance. In Surah Al-Hadid, Allah says, (Quran 57:11)

Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.

By hastening to help those in need, we are essentially lending a loan to Allah, who promises to multiply our rewards manifold. This act of expediting the release of the needy is not only a means of success in this world but also in the Hereafter. Allah further emphasizes the importance of helping others in Surah Al-Ma'un, where He says, (Quran 107:4-7)

So woe to those who pray but are heedless of their prayer - those who make show [of their deeds] and withhold [simple] assistance.

This verse serves as a reminder that true success lies not only in performing acts of worship but also in providing assistance to those in need. By expediting the release of the needy, we are fulfilling our duty as Muslims and ensuring that our prayers and acts of worship are not in vain. It is through these selfless acts that we attain true success and earn the pleasure of Allah.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, reminds us of the importance of expediting the release of the needy. By doing so, we not only alleviate their suffering but also contribute to our own success in this world and the Hereafter. We should strive to emulate the noble qualities of Imam Ali and make it a priority to help those in need, without delay or hesitation.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the significance of expediting the release of the needy. By hastening to help those in distress, we fulfill our duty as Muslims and earn the pleasure of Allah. Let us remember the words of Imam Ali and strive to be proactive in assisting those in need, for in doing so, we pave the way for our own success and the betterment of society. May Allah grant us the ability to embody this noble teaching and may He bless us with success in this world and the Hereafter.
