Hadith #8714

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ أيْقَنَ بِالقَدَرِ لَمْ يَكْتَرِثْ بِما نابَهُ۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of having certainty in destiny and how it can shield a person from being disturbed by the trials and tribulations of life.

Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith. The word (aiqana) "أيْقَنَ" means to have complete certainty and conviction. It is not merely having a belief or a doubt, but rather having unwavering faith in something. The word (bil-qadar) "بِالقَدَرِ" refers to destiny or predestination. It encompasses the belief that everything that happens in this world is according to the divine decree of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hadid (57:22-23),

No disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before We bring it into being - indeed that, for Allah, is easy - In order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what He has given you. And Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful.

This verse reminds us that every calamity or blessing that befalls us is already recorded in the divine register. It is a test from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to see how we respond. If we have certainty in destiny, we will not be overwhelmed by difficulties, nor will we become arrogant when bestowed with blessings. We recognize that both trials and blessings are part of Allah's plan for us.

Another verse that supports the concept of having certainty in destiny is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:216),

But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it is bad for you. And Allah knows, while you know not.

This verse reminds us that our limited understanding may lead us to dislike something that is ultimately beneficial for us, or to desire something that may be harmful. Having certainty in destiny allows us to trust in Allah's wisdom and accept His decree, knowing that He knows what is best for us.

Now, let us reflect on the enlightening message of this Hadith. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his immense knowledge and wisdom, highlights the importance of having certainty in destiny. When a person firmly believes that everything that happens is according to the divine plan, they are not disturbed by the trials and tribulations that come their way.

For example, if someone loses their job, a person with certainty in destiny will not despair or become despondent. They will understand that it is a test from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and have faith that something better is in store for them. They will remain patient and seek guidance from Allah, knowing that He is the ultimate provider and sustainer.

Likewise, if someone is blessed with success, a person with certainty in destiny will not become arrogant or boastful. They will recognize that their achievements are a result of Allah's blessings and guidance. They will remain humble and grateful, using their success as an opportunity to serve and benefit others.

Having certainty in destiny brings inner peace and tranquility. It frees us from the shackles of anxiety and worry, allowing us to navigate through the ups and downs of life with grace and resilience. It reminds us that everything happens for a reason and that Allah's plan is perfect, even if we may not fully comprehend it.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of having certainty in destiny. By firmly believing that everything is according to Allah's divine plan, we can face the challenges of life with unwavering faith and resilience.
