Hadith #5412

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his purified progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ نَصَحَ مُسْتَشِرَهُ صَلُحَ تَدْبِيرُهُ۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of giving sincere advice to those who seek our counsel. Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (nasaha) "نَصَحَ" in Arabic refers to sincere advice, counsel, or guidance given with the intention of benefiting the other person. This word is derived from the root (nashaḥa) "نَصَحَ", which means to be pure, sincere, and honest in one's intentions.

The phrase (mustashirahu) "مُسْتَشِرَهُ" refers to the one who seeks consultation or advice. Now, let us turn to the Quran to find support for the wisdom behind this Hadith. In Surah Al-Imran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 3:159)

And consult them in the matter. Then when you have decided, rely upon Allah. Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].

This verse emphasizes the importance of seeking consultation before making decisions. It encourages us to seek advice from others and then place our trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) while making our final decision.

Another verse that supports the concept of seeking sincere advice can be found in Surah Al-Shura, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 42:38)

And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend.

This verse highlights the importance of consultation among believers and the benefits that come from collective decision-making.
