(Ghurar al-Hikam: Remembrance [Of Allah] And The Reminder)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The one who remembers Allah is in His Company.

This impactful saying emphasizes the significance of remembrance of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and the immense blessings that come with it.

Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding. The word (Dhakir) "ذاكِرُ" refers to the one who remembers or mentions Allah. It encompasses both verbal and internal remembrance. It is a comprehensive term that includes acts such as recitation of the Quran, supplication, and reflection upon the attributes and blessings of Allah.

The word (Allah) "اللّهِ" is the divine name of the Almighty, encompassing all His attributes and qualities. It signifies the One who is worthy of worship, the Creator, and the Sustainer of the universe.

The phrase (Subhanahu) "سُبْحَانَهُ" is an attribute of Allah, indicating His transcendence, perfection, and purity. It is an expression of glorification and exaltation, acknowledging that Allah is free from any imperfections or deficiencies.

The term (Mujalasuhu) "مُجالِسُهُ" refers to being in the company of Allah. It implies that the one who remembers Allah is in a state of nearness and connection with the Divine. It signifies a spiritual closeness and a sense of being in the presence of Allah.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:152),

So remember Me; I will remember you.

This verse highlights the reciprocal nature of remembrance. When we remember Allah, He, in turn, remembers us and showers us with His blessings and mercy.

In Surah Al-A'raf (7:205), Allah says,

And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless.

This verse emphasizes the internal remembrance of Allah, which is done with humility and reverence. It reminds us to constantly remember Allah in our hearts, especially during the morning and evening, and to avoid heedlessness.

The consequences of remembering Allah are manifold. Firstly, it strengthens our relationship with Him and increases our consciousness of His presence in our lives. It brings about a sense of tranquility, contentment, and spiritual fulfillment. Secondly, remembrance of Allah serves as a shield against evil and temptation. It acts as a constant reminder of our purpose in life and helps us stay on the path of righteousness. Thirdly, it instills gratitude within us, as we reflect upon the countless blessings bestowed upon us by Allah.

The motivation behind remembering Allah should stem from our love for Him and our desire to seek His pleasure. We should strive to make remembrance of Allah an integral part of our daily lives, incorporating it into our prayers, recitation of the Quran, and supplications. By doing so, we will experience the profound impact it has on our spiritual well-being and our overall outlook on life.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of remembering Allah and the immense blessings that come with it. It reminds us that through remembrance, we can attain a state of nearness and connection with the Divine. Let us strive to be among those who remember Allah constantly, both in our words and in our hearts, and may Allah grant us the ability to be in His company.
