Gratitude is advantageous.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Gratitude And The Grateful)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds, and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states "الشُّكْرُ مَغْنَمٌ۔" which translates to "Gratitude is advantageous." This concise statement holds profound wisdom and guidance for all Muslims, regardless of their sect.
Let us delve into the meaning of the key words in this Hadith. (gratitude) "الشُّكْرُ" refers to expressing appreciation and thankfulness to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) for His countless blessings. It is an acknowledgement of His favors upon us and a recognition of His infinite mercy. (advantageous) "مَغْنَمٌ" indicates that gratitude brings immense benefits and blessings to the individual who practices it.
The importance of gratitude is emphasized in the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 14:7)
And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.'
This verse clearly highlights the direct correlation between gratitude and an increase in blessings from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). When we express gratitude for the blessings we have been bestowed with, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) promises to multiply those blessings.
Furthermore, the Quran teaches us that gratitude is not only advantageous in this world, but also in the Hereafter. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 31:12)
And whoever is grateful is grateful for [the benefit of] himself. And whoever denies [His favor] - then indeed, Allah is Free of need and Praiseworthy.
This verse reminds us that gratitude is not just a means of seeking worldly benefits, but it is a means of spiritual growth and self-improvement. By expressing gratitude, we are ultimately benefiting our own souls and drawing closer to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his profound knowledge and wisdom, highlights the significance of gratitude in this Hadith. He reminds us that gratitude is not only a moral virtue, but it is also a practical advantage in our lives. When we cultivate an attitude of gratitude, we become more aware of the blessings around us, both big and small. This awareness leads to a positive mindset, contentment, and a sense of fulfillment. Gratitude helps us to focus on the good in our lives, even in the face of challenges and difficulties.
Moreover, gratitude has a transformative effect on our relationships with others. When we express gratitude towards our fellow human beings, we strengthen the bonds of love, kindness, and compassion. It fosters a sense of unity and harmony within our communities, as we acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of others.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that gratitude is not only a moral duty, but it is also advantageous for our well-being in this world and the Hereafter. By expressing gratitude to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and being grateful for His blessings, we invite an abundance of His favors into our lives. Gratitude also brings about positive changes in our mindset, relationships, and overall outlook on life. Let us strive to cultivate an attitude of gratitude and reap the countless benefits it offers. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to be truly grateful and may He shower His blessings upon all Muslims.
