(Ghurar al-Hikam: Agony)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لِكُلِّ ضيق مَخْرَجٌ۔" which translates to

For every agony there is a way out.

This amazing Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) holds deep wisdom and guidance for Muslims in times of distress and hardship.

Let us delve into the meanings of the important words in this Hadith. The word (dayq) "ضيق" refers to distress, hardship, or agony. It encompasses any form of difficulty or suffering that an individual may face in their life. The word (makhraj) "مَخْرَجٌ" means an exit or a way out. It signifies a solution or relief from the distressing situation.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) assures us in Surah Al-Inshirah (94:5-6),

Indeed, with hardship, there is relief. Indeed, with hardship, there is relief.

This repetition emphasizes the certainty of relief accompanying any difficulty we may face. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) promises that He will provide a way out for His servants, no matter how challenging the circumstances may seem.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Talaq (65:2-3), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect.

These verses highlight the divine intervention that occurs when a person turns to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) in times of distress. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the ultimate source of relief and He will guide His servants towards a solution, even when it seems impossible.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement serves as a reminder to Muslims that no matter how dire the circumstances may appear, there is always a way out. This Hadith encourages us to have faith in Allah's (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) mercy and to seek His help in times of distress. It teaches us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the ultimate problem-solver and that He will provide relief and guidance to those who turn to Him.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we can find solace and motivation to face our challenges with patience and trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It reminds us that every difficulty we encounter is an opportunity for growth and a means to strengthen our relationship with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). Just as the night is followed by the dawn, every hardship is followed by relief.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ)

For every agony there is a way out

serves as a powerful reminder for Muslims to have faith in Allah's (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) mercy and to seek His guidance in times of distress. It reassures us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) will provide relief and solutions to our difficulties, no matter how overwhelming they may seem. Let us hold onto this profound wisdom and trust in Allah's (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) divine plan for us. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength and patience to overcome our hardships and may He guide us towards the way out.
