Hadith #10220

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

لاخَيْرَ في قَوْم لَيْسُوا بِناصِحينَ ولا يُحِبُّونَ النّاصِحينَ۔

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of sincere advice within a community and the love for those who offer sincere advice.

Let us delve into the meaning of some key words in this Hadith. The word (nasihin) "ناصِحينَ" refers to those who sincerely advise others. They are individuals who genuinely care about the well-being and guidance of their community. The word (yuhibbun) "يُحِبُّونَ" means to love or have affection for someone. In this context, it signifies the love and appreciation for those who offer sincere advice.

This Hadith aligns with the teachings of the Quran, which repeatedly emphasizes the importance of sincere advice and counsel. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Asr (103:3),

Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

This verse highlights the significance of advising one another towards truth and patience, two essential qualities for a thriving community.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:10), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.

This verse emphasizes the unity and brotherhood among believers, and part of this brotherhood is offering sincere advice to one another for the sake of maintaining harmony and resolving conflicts.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) sheds light on the consequences of a community lacking sincere advisers and failing to appreciate their role. Such a community will be deprived of goodness and will struggle to progress. Without sincere advice, individuals may fall into ignorance, arrogance, and harmful actions. The absence of love for sincere advisers indicates a lack of appreciation for wisdom and guidance, hindering the growth and development of the community.

In practical terms, this Hadith encourages Muslims to actively seek and offer sincere advice within their communities. It reminds us to appreciate those who genuinely care about our well-being and offer guidance based on knowledge and wisdom. By valuing sincere advice, we create an environment that fosters growth, unity, and righteousness.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we should ask ourselves: Are we actively seeking sincere advice? Do we appreciate those who offer guidance based on their knowledge and experience? Are we open to constructive criticism and willing to improve ourselves? By embracing the spirit of sincere advice, we can contribute to the betterment of our communities and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood among Muslims.

May Allah (تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us to be sincere advisers and grant us the ability to appreciate and benefit from the sincere advice of others. May He bless our communities with unity, wisdom, and righteousness.
