Hadith #7773

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لاتِجارَةَ كَالعَمَلِ الصّالِحِ۔" This can be translated as,

There is no trade like good deeds.

In this amazing Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the unparalleled value and reward of engaging in righteous actions.

To better understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the meanings of the key words. The word (tijarat) "تِجَارَةَ" refers to trade or commerce, which involves the exchange of goods or services for profit. It encompasses the idea of investment and seeking material gain. On the other hand, (al-'amal al-salih) "العَمَلِ الصّالِحِ" refers to good deeds or righteous actions. These are acts performed with sincerity and in accordance with the teachings of Islam, aiming to please Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

The Quran provides us with numerous verses that emphasize the importance and rewards of engaging in good deeds. For instance, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:277),

Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.

This verse highlights the correlation between faith, good deeds, and the ultimate reward from Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Kahf (18:46), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

Wealth and children are [but] adornment of the worldly life. But the enduring good deeds are better to your Lord for reward and better for [one's] hope.

This verse emphasizes that while worldly possessions and relationships may bring temporary pleasure, it is the enduring good deeds that hold true value in the sight of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith serves as a reminder to Muslims that engaging in good deeds is a form of trade that surpasses any worldly commerce. When we invest our time, effort, and resources in performing righteous actions, we are trading in the currency of the Hereafter. The rewards for such trade are immeasurable and everlasting.
