Hadith #6038

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

عَلَيْكَ بِطاعَةِ مَنْ لاتُعْذَرُ بِجَهالَتِهِ۔

This powerful statement emphasizes the importance of obeying someone who possesses knowledge that cannot be excused due to ignorance. Let us delve into the exegesis of this profound Hadith in light of the Quran.

The word (obedience) "طاعَةِ" in this Hadith refers to submitting oneself to the authority and guidance of a knowledgeable individual. It implies following their instructions, adhering to their teachings, and acting in accordance with their guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah An-Nisa (4:59),

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.

The phrase (whom you cannot be excused for being ignorant about) "مَنْ لاتُعْذَرُ بِجَهالَتِهِ۔" emphasizes the significance of seeking knowledge and recognizing the authority of those who possess it. O you who have believed, when you are told, 'Make room in assemblies,' then make room; Allah will make room for you. And when you are told, 'Arise,' then arise; Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees.

This verse highlights the elevated status of those who possess knowledge and emphasizes the importance of acknowledging and respecting their authority. It is through obedience to such individuals that we can attain spiritual elevation and growth.
