— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: The Qur’an)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his righteous companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of seeking cure and healing solely from the Qur'an. The Arabic word (istashfiya) "استشفي" means to seek a cure or to seek healing. The word (ghayr) "غير" means other than, and (al-Qur'an) "القرآن" refers to the Holy Qur'an. The word (daa) "داء" means ailment or disease, and (shaf) "شاف" means cure or healing.

This wise utterance of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the comprehensive nature of the Qur'an as a source of healing for all types of ailments, whether physical, spiritual, or emotional. It is a reminder for Muslims to turn to the Qur'an as their primary source of guidance and remedy in times of difficulty and distress.

The Qur'an itself testifies to its healing properties. In Surah Yunus, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Qur'an 17:82)

And We send down of the Qur'an that which is healing and mercy for the believers.

This verse confirms that the Qur'an is a source of healing and mercy for those who believe in it and seek solace in its teachings.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Isra, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Qur'an 17:82)

And We send down from the Qur'an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe.

This verse reiterates the healing and merciful nature of the Qur'an, emphasizing that it is a source of solace and comfort for those who have faith.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a reminder to Muslims that the Qur'an is not just a book of guidance and wisdom, but also a source of healing and cure. It encourages us to turn to the Qur'an in times of distress, seeking solace and remedy for our physical, spiritual, and emotional ailments.

When we encounter difficulties in life, whether it be physical illness, mental anguish, or spiritual turmoil, the Qur'an provides us with guidance, comfort, and healing. Its verses contain profound wisdom, uplifting messages, and practical solutions to our problems. By reflecting upon and implementing the teachings of the Qur'an, we can find relief and healing for our ailments.

For example, if someone is suffering from anxiety or depression, they can find solace in the verses of the Qur'an that emphasize the remembrance of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and the importance of relying on Him. The act of reciting and pondering over the verses of the Qur'an can bring tranquility to the heart and alleviate the symptoms of mental distress.

Similarly, if someone is facing physical illness, they can find comfort in the verses of the Qur'an that emphasize the power and mercy of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). By seeking solace in these verses and supplicating to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) for healing, one can experience the miraculous power of the Qur'an in their recovery.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) also serves as a reminder of the importance of relying on the Qur'an as the ultimate source of guidance and remedy. It warns against seeking alternative sources for cure and healing, as they may not provide the same comprehensive and divine guidance that the Qur'an offers.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the significance of seeking cure and healing solely from the Qur'an. It highlights the comprehensive nature of the Qur'an as a source of healing for all types of ailments, and encourages Muslims to turn to the Qur'an in times of distress. By reflecting upon and implementing the teachings of the Qur'an, we can find solace, comfort, and remedy for our physical, spiritual, and emotional ailments. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the ability to seek healing from the Qur'an and benefit from its profound wisdom and guidance.
