Hadith #8419

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

فَخْرُ المَرْءِ بِفَضْلِهِ لابِأصْلِهِ۔

This can be translated as,

The pride of a man is by his merit, not because of his origin [and lineage].

This impactful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of personal achievements and virtues over one's family background or social status.

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

This verse clearly states that the true measure of nobility and superiority lies in righteousness and piety, not in one's lineage or tribal affiliation. It is the individual's actions, character, and moral conduct that determine their worth in the sight of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Another verse that supports the message of Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith is found in Surah Al-Isra (17:80), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This verse highlights the importance of seeking Allah's guidance and relying on His support rather than relying solely on one's lineage or social status.
