Indeed justice is the scale of Allah, the Glorified, which He has placed among the creation and installed for the establishment of truth; so do not oppose Him in His scale and do not contradict Him in His authority.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Justice And The Just)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of justice in the eyes of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). The word (justice) "عَدْلَ" is derived from the root word "عَدَلَ" which means to be fair, equitable, and balanced. It is a fundamental principle in Islam and a cornerstone of the divine system.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has established justice as a scale among His creation, signifying its significance and centrality. This scale is not only a means of measuring actions and deeds, but it also serves as a tool for the establishment of truth and the maintenance of order and harmony in society. It is through justice that the rights of individuals are protected, and the principles of fairness and equality are upheld.
The command in this Hadith is clear - Muslims are instructed not to oppose or contradict Allah's scale of justice. This means that we should not deviate from the path of justice, nor should we act in a manner that is contrary to the principles of fairness and equity. It is a reminder for us to always strive for justice in our actions, decisions, and interactions with others.
The importance of justice in Islam is reinforced by numerous verses in the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah An-Nisa, verse 135:
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.
This verse emphasizes the importance of upholding justice, even if it goes against our own interests or the interests of our loved ones. It reminds us that justice should not be compromised for personal gain or favoritism. Our allegiance should always be to Allah and His principles of justice, regardless of the circumstances.
Another verse that supports the concept of justice is found in Surah Al-Ma'idah, verse 8:
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
This verse highlights the importance of being just and impartial, even in the face of animosity or hatred towards a particular group of people. It reminds us that justice should always prevail, regardless of our personal feelings or biases. By being just, we are closer to righteousness and fulfilling our obligations as Muslims.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) enlightening Hadith serves as a reminder for all Muslims to uphold justice in all aspects of life. It is a call to action, urging us to align ourselves with the divine scale of justice and to strive for fairness and equality in our dealings with others. By doing so, we not only fulfill our obligations as Muslims but also contribute to the establishment of a just and harmonious society.
May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) guide us all to follow the path of justice and righteousness, and may He grant us the wisdom and strength to always uphold justice in our actions and decisions.
