Hadith #3368

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "لاعِلمَ كالخَشْيَةِ۔" This can be translated as,

There is no knowledge like the fear [and awe] of Allah.

Let us delve into the meaning of this statement in light of the Quran.

The word (knowledge) "عِلْمَ" in this Hadith refers to the understanding and awareness of the divine truths and wisdom. It encompasses both intellectual knowledge and spiritual insight. And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah.

This verse highlights the importance of having knowledge about Allah and His oneness, which leads to a greater love and fear of Him.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Anfal (8:29), Allah says,

O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty.

This verse emphasizes that the fear of Allah leads to His forgiveness and mercy. It is through the fear of Allah that we are guided towards righteousness and protected from committing sins.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the superiority of the fear of Allah over all other forms of knowledge. It teaches us that true knowledge is not merely intellectual, but it is deeply rooted in the fear and awe of Allah. Reflecting on the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), we should strive to cultivate the fear of Allah in our hearts. We should seek knowledge that deepens our understanding of Allah's attributes, His guidance, and His expectations from us.
