Hadith #9491

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his noble family, the Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

If falsehood dominates, it has [always] been so in the past, and if truth diminishes, that too has often occurred and may [again] happen. It is seldom that a thing lags behind and remains behind.

Let us delve into the essence of this Hadith by examining the important words and concepts it entails. The word (batil) "باطِلُ" refers to falsehood, deceit, or that which is devoid of truth. (haqq) "حَقُّ" refers to truth, righteousness, and that which is in accordance with the divine guidance. To further understand the meaning of this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states in Surah Al-Anbiya (21:18),

Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe.

This verse highlights the constant struggle between truth and falsehood, with truth ultimately prevailing and falsehood being destroyed. It reminds us that falsehood may dominate for a period, but it is temporary and will eventually be eradicated.
