Hadith #7033

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds, and blessings be upon Muhammad (ﷺ) and his pure progeny, the Ahl al-Bayt, as well as his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

العقل رقي إلى عليين

which translates to

The intellect elevates one to the lofty stations [in Paradise].

This beautiful Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the significance of intellect and its role in attaining higher spiritual ranks in the Hereafter.

The word (aql) "عقل" refers to intellect or rationality. It is the faculty of reasoning, understanding, and discernment that distinguishes humans from other creatures. And these examples We present to the people, but none will understand them except those of knowledge.

This verse highlights the significance of knowledge and intellect in comprehending the signs and lessons presented by Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:269), Allah states,

He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good.

The Quran also emphasizes the importance of seeking knowledge and using intellect to discern the truth. In Surah Al-Zumar (39:9), Allah says,

Say, 'Are those who know equal to those who do not know?' Only they will remember [who are] people of understanding.

This verse highlights the superiority of those who possess knowledge and understanding over those who are ignorant.

In light of these Quranic verses, we can understand that the intellect is a divine gift bestowed upon humanity by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It is through the proper use of intellect that individuals can attain higher spiritual ranks in Paradise. By seeking knowledge, understanding the signs of Allah, and discerning the truth, one can elevate their intellect and ascend to the lofty stations in the Hereafter.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his unparalleled wisdom and knowledge, emphasizes the importance of utilizing one's intellect to attain spiritual elevation. He encourages Muslims to engage in deep reflection, critical thinking, and the pursuit of knowledge. By doing so, individuals can develop their intellect and ultimately reach the highest positions in Paradise.

The consequences of neglecting or misusing one's intellect are also significant. Failing to utilize the intellect can lead to ignorance, misunderstanding, and deviation from the right path. In Surah Al-A'raf (7:179), Allah warns,

And We have certainly created for Hell many of the jinn and mankind. They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like livestock; rather, they are more astray. It is they who are the heedless.

This verse highlights the dire consequences of neglecting the intellect and failing to understand the signs of Allah. Those who do not utilize their intellect are likened to livestock, devoid of understanding and guidance. They are led astray and become heedless of their purpose in life.
