(Ghurar al-Hikam: Good Turns And Benevolent Actions)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

One who is kind to the people, his outcomes become good and the ways [to his goals] become easy for him.

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of kindness and good treatment towards others. Let us delve deeper into the meanings of the key words in this Hadith and explore its implications in light of the Quran.

The word (ahsan) "أحْسَنَ" in the Hadith means to do good or to excel in goodness. It encompasses acts of kindness, benevolence, and compassion towards others. The word (ila al-nas) "إلَى النّاسِ" refers to people in general, encompassing all individuals regardless of their faith, ethnicity, or social status. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) highlights the importance of treating all people with kindness and respect, regardless of their differences.

The Hadith further states that when one is kind to others, their outcomes become good. This means that by displaying kindness, one can expect positive consequences in their life. This concept is beautifully echoed in the Quran, where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hajj (22:40),

Those who have been evicted from their homes without right - only because they say, 'Our Lord is Allah.' And were it not that Allah checks the people, some by means of others, there would have been demolished monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques in which the name of Allah is much mentioned. And Allah will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

This verse emphasizes the importance of supporting and being kind to those who are oppressed or facing difficulties due to their faith. Allah promises to support those who support Him, indicating that acts of kindness and support towards others will have positive outcomes. By treating others with kindness, we can expect Allah's support and blessings in our own lives.

The Hadith also mentions that when one is kind to others, the ways to their goals become easy. This means that by displaying kindness, one's path in life becomes smoother and obstacles are removed. This concept is beautifully illustrated in the Quran in Surah Al-Isra (17:80), where Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And say: My Lord! Cause me to come in with a firm incoming and to go out with a firm outgoing. And give me from Thy presence a sustaining Power.

This verse highlights the importance of seeking Allah's assistance and guidance in all our endeavors. By treating others with kindness, we align ourselves with the values and teachings of Allah, making our path in life easier and smoother. When we display kindness towards others, we create an environment of positivity and harmony, which in turn attracts the support and blessings of Allah.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us through this Hadith that kindness towards others is not only a moral obligation but also a means to achieve success and ease in our lives. By treating others with kindness and compassion, we not only improve our relationships with others but also invite the support and blessings of Allah. Let us strive to emulate the noble qualities of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), particularly his profound knowledge and wisdom, and make kindness a guiding principle in our interactions with others. May Allah grant us the ability to be kind and compassionate towards all people, and may He make our outcomes good and our paths easy.
