One whose satisfaction with what is decreed is good, his patience in [times of] tribulation will be good.

(Ghurar al-Hikam: Being Pleased And Satisfied)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.
The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of being content with the divine decree and accepting it with a good heart. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), known for his deep knowledge and wisdom, teaches us that when we are satisfied with what Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has decreed for us, our patience during times of hardship and adversity will also be commendable.
Let us delve into the key words of this Hadith to gain a deeper understanding. The word (ridaahu) "رِضاهُ" refers to satisfaction, contentment, and acceptance. It implies being pleased and at peace with what Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has ordained for us, whether it is favorable or unfavorable. The word (hasuna) "حَسُنَ" means good or excellent, indicating that the quality of one's patience during tribulations is directly linked to the goodness of their satisfaction with the divine decree. The word (sabr) "صَبْرُهُ" refers to patience, endurance, and steadfastness in the face of difficulties and trials. And finally, the word (balaa) "بَلاءِ" signifies tribulation, affliction, or hardship that one may encounter in life.
To further comprehend the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 155:
And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.
This verse highlights that trials and tribulations are an inevitable part of life, and it is through patience and acceptance that one can navigate through them successfully.
Additionally, in Surah Al-Insan, verse 8, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states:
And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], 'We feed you only for the countenance of Allah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude.'
This verse exemplifies the concept of being content with what Allah has given us and using our blessings to help others, without expecting anything in return. It reflects the selflessness and satisfaction with the divine decree that Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) encourages in the Hadith.
Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) enlightening saying reminds us that true patience is not merely enduring hardships, but rather it is the ability to accept them with a good heart. When we are content with what Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has decreed for us, we are able to maintain a positive outlook and find solace in His wisdom. This contentment brings inner peace and tranquility, allowing us to face tribulations with resilience and fortitude.
By practicing satisfaction with the divine decree, we can develop a mindset that sees challenges as opportunities for growth and spiritual elevation. Instead of complaining or becoming disheartened, we can focus on finding solutions and learning valuable lessons from our trials. This attitude not only strengthens our relationship with Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), but it also inspires those around us, as they witness our unwavering faith and patience.
Moreover, being content with the divine decree enables us to recognize the blessings hidden within difficulties. It reminds us that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the All-Wise and All-Knowing, and He has a greater plan for us, even if we cannot comprehend it in the present moment. This understanding helps us maintain a positive outlook and trust in Allah's wisdom, knowing that He will guide us through every trial and reward us for our patience.
In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of being content with the divine decree. It reminds us that our satisfaction with what Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has ordained for us directly impacts our ability to patiently endure tribulations. By accepting Allah's decree with a good heart, we can cultivate a mindset of gratitude, resilience, and trust in His wisdom. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength to embrace His decree and grant us the patience to face every trial with grace and steadfastness.
