Hadith #1124

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

أينَ يَغُرُّكُمْ سَرابُ الآمالِ؟!

which translates to

Where will the mirage of hopes misguide you to?!

This powerful statement by Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) carries deep wisdom and serves as a reminder for all Muslims to reflect upon the transient nature of worldly desires and the potential dangers they pose.

Know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris.

This ayah reminds us that the allure of worldly desires may captivate us temporarily, but they are ultimately transient and will fade away. Just like a mirage, they can misguide us and distract us from our ultimate purpose in life, which is to seek the pleasure of Allah and attain success in the Hereafter.
