Do not put the worry of your [entire] year on your day. That which is apportioned for you each day suffices for you in it. Then if you are to live another year, verily Allah, the Glorified, will bring to you what He has apportioned for you in each new day and if you will not live that long then why are you worried about that which is not for you?.

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The provided Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) emphasizes the importance of living in the present moment and not burdening oneself with the worries of the future. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advises us not to carry the weight of the entire year on our shoulders on a daily basis. Instead, he reminds us that each day has its own provisions and blessings, which are sufficient for that particular day.

The key words in this Hadith are (your year) "سَنَتِكَ", (each day) "كُلَّ يَوْم", (apportioned for you) "قُدِّرَ لَكَ", and (that which is not for you) "مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ". These words highlight the concept of divine decree and the importance of living in the present moment, focusing on what is within our control rather than worrying about the unknown future.

To further understand the wisdom behind this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Jumu'ah (62:8),

Say, 'Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do.'

This verse reminds us that death is inevitable and that we will ultimately return to Allah, the Knower of the seen and the unseen. It serves as a reminder that our time in this world is limited and that we should make the most of each day, focusing on our actions and deeds in the present moment.

Additionally, in Surah Al-Ma'idah (5:48), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says,

And for every nation is a [specified] term. So when their time has come, they will not remain behind an hour, nor will they precede [it].

This verse highlights the concept of divine timing and the predetermined lifespan of each individual. It reminds us that our time on this earth is limited and that we should not become preoccupied with worrying about the future, as it is already determined by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advice in this Hadith encourages us to trust in Allah's divine plan and to focus on the present moment. If we are meant to live another year, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) will provide for us and fulfill our needs in each new day. However, if our time is limited and we will not live that long, there is no need to worry about that which is not meant for us.

This Hadith teaches us the importance of living mindfully and being fully present in each moment. It reminds us to trust in Allah's wisdom and to surrender our worries and anxieties to Him. By focusing on the present and relying on Allah's provisions, we can find peace and contentment in our daily lives.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) serves as a profound reminder for Muslims to live in the present moment and not to burden themselves with the worries of the future. It encourages us to trust in Allah's divine plan and to focus on what is within our control. By doing so, we can find peace, contentment, and a deeper connection with our Creator. May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom to implement the teachings of this Hadith in our lives.
