(Ghurar al-Hikam: Submission To The Will Of Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure and noble Ahl al-Bayt, and his righteous companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

إنَّكَ إنْ سالَمْتَ اللّهَ سَلِمْتَ وَفُزْتَ۔

This can be translated as:

Verily if you submit to Allah, you will be safe and successful.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this impactful saying of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) in the light of the Quran.

The word (salamta) "سالَمْتَ" comes from the root word (salam) "سَلَمَ", which means to submit, surrender, or be at peace. It implies a state of complete submission to the will of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). This submission is not merely a physical act, but rather a comprehensive surrender of the heart, mind, and soul to the commandments of Allah.

In the Quran, Allah emphasizes the importance of submitting to Him in numerous verses. For example, in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:208), Allah says:

O you who have believed, enter into peace completely and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

This verse highlights the significance of entering into peace, which is achieved through complete submission to Allah's guidance.

Furthermore, the word (fuzta) "فُزْتَ" comes from the root word (fawz) "فَوْزٌ", which means success, triumph, or attainment of the desired outcome. Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is reminding us that true success can only be attained through submitting to Allah's will and following His guidance.

In Surah Al-Imran (3:102), Allah says:

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

This verse emphasizes the importance of fearing Allah and living a life of submission to Him. It is through this submission that we can attain true success in this life and the Hereafter.

Imam Ali's statement serves as a profound reminder for all Muslims. It highlights the inseparable connection between submission to Allah and attaining safety and success. When we submit ourselves entirely to Allah's commandments, we find peace and protection from the harms and trials of this world. Moreover, this submission leads us to success in both our worldly endeavors and our spiritual journey.

By submitting to Allah, we align ourselves with His divine wisdom and guidance. We make choices that are in accordance with His will, which ultimately leads to positive outcomes and blessings in our lives. This submission also protects us from falling into the traps of our own desires and the temptations of the Shaytan.

Imam Ali's impactful saying serves as a motivation for us to constantly strive towards submitting to Allah in every aspect of our lives. It reminds us that true success lies in our ability to surrender ourselves to Allah's will, regardless of the challenges and difficulties we may face.

When we submit to Allah, we are guided by His light and wisdom. We make decisions based on what pleases Him, and we seek His pleasure above all else. This submission brings us closer to Allah and strengthens our relationship with Him. It allows us to experience the tranquility and contentment that comes from knowing that we are on the right path.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that true safety and success can only be attained through submitting to Allah and following His guidance. It reminds us of the importance of surrendering ourselves completely to Allah's will and seeking His pleasure in all aspects of our lives. May Allah grant us the ability to submit to Him wholeheartedly and attain true success in this life and the Hereafter.
