Hadith #733

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

One who preserves [that which is entrusted to him] and is loyal will not be deprived of the benefit of brotherhood.

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of two qualities: preservation and loyalty. Let us delve into the meaning of these words and their significance in light of the Quran.

The word (hifaz) "حِفاظ" in the Hadith refers to preservation or safeguarding. It implies the act of protecting and taking care of something entrusted to us. This can be understood in various contexts, such as preserving one's faith, honor, wealth, or relationships. In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) encourages believers to preserve their faith and righteousness. In Surah Al-Imran, Allah says, (3:200)

O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful

This verse highlights the importance of preserving one's faith and remaining steadfast in the face of challenges.

The word (wafa) "وَفاء" in the Hadith means loyalty or faithfulness. It signifies fulfilling one's obligations and commitments with sincerity and dedication. Loyalty is a fundamental trait that strengthens relationships and fosters trust. In the Quran, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) emphasizes the importance of loyalty in various aspects of life. In Surah Al-Ma'idah, Allah says, (5:1)

O you who have believed, fulfill [all] contracts

This verse highlights the significance of fulfilling one's commitments and being loyal to one's agreements.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that those who possess the qualities of preservation and loyalty will not be deprived of the benefit of brotherhood. This statement highlights the positive consequences that arise from embodying these qualities. When individuals preserve and protect what is entrusted to them, whether it be their faith, relationships, or responsibilities, they contribute to the strengthening of the bonds of brotherhood within the Muslim community.
