(Ghurar al-Hikam: Correctness)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

كَثْرَةُ الصَّوابِ تُنْبِئُ عَنْ وُفُورِ العَقْلِ۔

This can be translated as,

Increased correctness points to abundant intelligence.

Let us delve into the meaning of the important words in this Hadith. (kathratu) "كَثْرَةُ" means "increased" or "abundance." (as-sawab) "الصَّوابِ" refers to "correctness" or "accuracy." (tunbi'u) "تُنْبِئُ" means "points to" or "indicates." And finally, (wufur) "وُفُورِ" signifies "abundance" or "plenty," while (al-'aql) "العَقْلِ" refers to "intelligence" or "reasoning."

To understand the profound wisdom behind this Hadith, we can turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) repeatedly emphasizes the importance of knowledge, wisdom, and intellect in the Quran. In Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 269, Allah says,

He grants wisdom to whom He pleases, and whoever is granted wisdom is indeed given a great wealth.

This verse highlights the significance of wisdom and intelligence as a valuable asset bestowed by Allah.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Qasas, verse 14, Allah says,

And We made the children of Israel to pass through the sea; then Fir'aun and his hosts followed them for oppression and tyranny; until when drowning overtook him, he said: 'I believe that there is no god but He in Whom the children of Israel believe, and I am of those who submit.'

This verse illustrates the importance of correct understanding and realization of the truth. Fir'aun, despite his oppressive nature, recognized the truth at the last moment, indicating the significance of correctness and intelligence.

Based on these Quranic verses, we can understand the essence of Imam Ali's Hadith. The increased correctness in one's actions, beliefs, and decisions is a clear indication of abundant intelligence. When a person consistently makes correct choices, it reflects their deep understanding, wisdom, and intellectual capacity. This Hadith encourages Muslims to strive for correctness in all aspects of their lives, as it is a sign of their intelligence and reasoning.

For example, when a person consistently makes correct judgments in matters of faith, such as recognizing the oneness of Allah and the Prophethood of Muhammad (), it demonstrates their deep understanding of the truth. Similarly, when someone consistently makes correct decisions in their personal and professional lives, it reflects their intelligence and reasoning abilities.

The consequences of following this Hadith are far-reaching. By striving for increased correctness, Muslims can enhance their intellectual capacity and strengthen their relationship with Allah. It leads to a more profound understanding of the Quran and the teachings of Islam, enabling Muslims to make informed decisions and live a righteous life.

Moreover, this Hadith serves as a reminder for Muslims to continuously seek knowledge and wisdom. By engaging in lifelong learning, Muslims can increase their correctness and strengthen their intelligence. This pursuit of knowledge is not limited to religious matters but encompasses all aspects of life, including science, arts, and humanities.

In conclusion, Imam Ali's Hadith emphasizes the importance of increased correctness as a sign of abundant intelligence. By consistently making correct choices and decisions, Muslims can demonstrate their deep understanding, wisdom, and intellectual capacity. This Hadith encourages Muslims to strive for correctness in all aspects of their lives, leading to a more profound relationship with Allah and a righteous existence. May Allah grant us the ability to seek knowledge, make correct choices, and increase our intelligence.
