(Ghurar al-Hikam: Fleeing To Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) reminds us of the importance of seeking refuge in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and not trying to escape from Him. The words used in this Hadith are significant and deserve our attention.

The word (firoo) "فِرُّوا" means to flee or run away. It implies a sense of urgency and the need to seek protection. In this context, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is advising us to flee towards Allah, to seek His refuge and protection from the challenges and difficulties of life. It is a call to turn to Allah in times of distress and to seek His guidance and support.

On the other hand, the word (tafirroo) "تَفِرُّوا" means to flee away or to escape. It suggests the act of trying to avoid or evade something. In this Hadith, Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) warns us against fleeing away from Allah. It is a reminder that no matter how hard we try to escape from Allah's presence or His decree, we will ultimately be found and held accountable for our actions.

To further understand the wisdom behind this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Hujurat (49:18):

Indeed, Allah knows the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Seeing of what you do.

This verse emphasizes the all-encompassing knowledge of Allah and His awareness of everything, even the hidden aspects of the universe. Therefore, trying to escape from Allah's presence is futile, as He is fully aware of our actions and intentions.

Additionally, in Surah Al-Qamar (54:52-53), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says:

And everything they did is in written records. And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.

These verses highlight the concept of accountability and the recording of our deeds. No matter how small or insignificant our actions may seem, they are all recorded and will be brought forth on the Day of Judgment. Therefore, it is essential to seek refuge in Allah and strive to do good, as we cannot escape His knowledge and judgment.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) advice in this Hadith serves as a reminder of our ultimate dependence on Allah and the futility of trying to escape from Him. It encourages us to turn to Allah in times of difficulty, seeking His guidance and protection. By fleeing towards Allah, we acknowledge His sovereignty and submit ourselves to His will. This submission brings us closer to Him and allows us to find solace and strength in His presence.

Moreover, this Hadith also highlights the importance of accountability. We cannot hide from Allah or escape His judgment. Our actions, no matter how hidden or insignificant they may seem, are known to Him. Therefore, it is crucial to be mindful of our deeds and strive to do good, knowing that we will be held accountable for them.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) urges us to seek refuge in Allah and not to flee away from Him. It reminds us of the all-encompassing knowledge of Allah and the inevitability of being held accountable for our actions. By turning to Allah and seeking His guidance, we find solace, strength, and protection. May Allah grant us the wisdom to understand the profound teachings of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) and the ability to apply them in our lives.
