(Ghurar al-Hikam: Faith)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure Ahl al-Bayt, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

أقْوىَ النَّاسِ إيمانَاً أكثَرُهُمْ تَوَكُّلاً عَلَى اللّهِ سُبْحانَهُ۔

This Hadith emphasizes the strength of faith in those who place the most reliance and trust in Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the key words and their significance. The word (strongest) "أقْوىَ" refers to the level of strength and power one possesses. In this context, it signifies the strength of one's faith. (the people) "النَّاسِ" refers to all individuals, regardless of their background or status. (faith) "إيمانَاً" encompasses the belief in the oneness of Allah, His attributes, and the acceptance of His guidance. Finally, (reliance) "تَوَكُّلاً" means to place complete trust and dependence on Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

The Quranic verses beautifully support the exegesis of this Hadith. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Anfal (8:2),

Indeed, the believers are only those whose hearts tremble at the mention of Allah. And when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely.

This verse highlights that true believers are those whose hearts are filled with awe and reverence for Allah, and their faith is strengthened when they hear His words. They place their complete reliance on Allah, knowing that He is their ultimate source of support and guidance.

Another verse that complements this Hadith is found in Surah At-Tawbah (9:51),

Say, 'Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.' And upon Allah let the believers rely.

This verse emphasizes the unwavering trust that believers should have in Allah, recognizing that whatever befalls them is by His decree. They rely solely on Him, knowing that He is their ultimate protector and guardian.

The exegesis of this Hadith teaches us the importance of relying on Allah in all aspects of our lives. It is a reminder that true strength lies not in our physical abilities or worldly possessions, but in our unwavering faith and trust in Allah. When faced with challenges, we should turn to Him in complete reliance, seeking His guidance and support.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) exemplified this quality of strong faith and reliance on Allah throughout his life. His knowledge and understanding of the Quran allowed him to embody the teachings of Islam in the most profound way. He faced numerous trials and tribulations, yet his unwavering trust in Allah never wavered. He relied on Allah's wisdom and guidance, and this made him one of the strongest believers in history.

As Muslims, we should strive to emulate Imam Ali's example and strengthen our faith by placing our complete reliance on Allah. We should seek His guidance through the Quran and strive to deepen our understanding of His teachings. By doing so, we can become among the strongest in faith and experience the tranquility and peace that comes from relying on Allah alone.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the strength to rely on Him wholeheartedly and increase our faith. May He bless us with the ability to understand and implement the teachings of the Quran in our lives. Ameen.
