Hadith #5586

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

In this profound Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), he imparts a valuable lesson to all Muslims. Let us begin by examining the important words in this Hadith.

The word (tudrik) "تُدْرِكَ" means to attain or achieve something. It implies reaching a desired goal or objective. The word (tuhibbu) "تُحِبُّ" means to love or desire something. It signifies a strong affection or inclination towards a particular thing. The word (sabr) "صَبْرِ" means patience or perseverance. It refers to the ability to control oneself and restrain from fulfilling immediate desires.

Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states that one can only attain what they love from their Lord by refraining from that which they desire. This beautiful Hadith highlights the importance of patience and self-control in the pursuit of our desires and aspirations. It reminds us that true success and fulfillment can only be achieved through discipline and restraint.

To further understand the wisdom behind this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 155:

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient.

This verse emphasizes the importance of patience in times of hardship and trials. It reminds us that true success is not measured by the fulfillment of our immediate desires, but rather by our ability to remain steadfast and patient in the face of challenges.

Furthermore, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Imran, verse 200:

O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful.

This verse encourages believers to persevere and endure in their faith, reminding them that true success lies in their ability to remain steadfast and patient.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) aligns perfectly with these Quranic teachings. It reminds us that our desires and immediate gratifications should not dictate our actions. They must trust in Allah's plan and have faith that He will provide sustenance through lawful means. By exercising patience and refraining from unlawful actions, they will attain success and blessings from their Lord.

Similarly, if a person desires a peaceful and harmonious family life, they must be patient and refrain from engaging in arguments or conflicts. They must strive to maintain good character and forgiveness, even in difficult situations. By exercising patience and refraining from negative behaviors, they will attain the love and tranquility they seek from their Lord.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us the importance of patience and self-control in attaining our desires from our Lord. It reminds us that true success and fulfillment can only be achieved through discipline and restraint. By aligning our actions with the teachings of the Quran and the guidance of the Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّلَامُ), we can strive towards attaining the love and pleasure of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
