(Ghurar al-Hikam: Putting Trust In Allah)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states:

مَنْ تَوَكَّلَ عَلَى اللّهِ تَسَهَّلَتْ لَهُ الصِّعابُ۔

This can be translated as:

Whoever trusts in Allah, difficulties become easy for him.

To understand the significance of this Hadith, let us delve into the key words and their implications. The word (tawakkal) "تَوَكَّلَ" means to place complete trust and reliance upon Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ). It signifies surrendering one's affairs to the will of Allah, acknowledging that He is the ultimate source of guidance, support, and ease.

The word (tasahhalat) "تَسَهَّلَتْ" is derived from the root word (sahala) "سَهَلَ", which means to make something easy or facilitate it. In this context, it refers to the fact that when a person places their trust in Allah, the difficulties and challenges they face in life become manageable and less burdensome.

This profound teaching of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) finds support in numerous verses of the Quran. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) assures us in Surah Al-Talaq (65:2-3):

And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah - then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

This ayah emphasizes that those who place their trust in Allah will find a way out of their difficulties and will be provided for in ways they could never have imagined. It highlights the divine promise of ease and support for those who rely solely on Allah.

Another verse that resonates with the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) is found in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286):

Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.

This verse reassures us that Allah, in His infinite wisdom, never places a burden upon us that we cannot handle. When we trust in Him, He grants us the strength and resilience to overcome our challenges.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) statement holds profound wisdom and practical implications for our lives as Muslims. Placing our trust in Allah does not mean we sit idle and expect miracles to happen. Rather, it means that we strive to the best of our abilities, while recognizing that ultimate success and ease come from Allah alone.

When we trust in Allah, we are motivated to take action, knowing that He is the ultimate source of help and guidance. We are driven by the belief that no matter how difficult the circumstances may seem, Allah's assistance is always near. This trust in Allah gives us the courage to face challenges head-on, knowing that He will make a way for us.

Moreover, when we trust in Allah, we experience a sense of tranquility and peace in our hearts. We are not overwhelmed by the trials and tribulations of life because we know that Allah is with us, guiding us through every step. This trust enables us to maintain a positive mindset and find solace in the knowledge that Allah's wisdom and mercy are at work, even in the face of adversity.

The consequences of placing our trust in Allah are profound. We become more resilient, patient, and steadfast in the face of difficulties. Our faith is strengthened, and we develop a deeper connection with our Creator. We realize that our reliance on worldly means alone is insufficient, and that true success lies in seeking Allah's support and guidance.

Reflecting upon Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaching, we are reminded to constantly strengthen our trust in Allah. We should strive to deepen our relationship with Him through acts of worship, seeking knowledge, and cultivating a sincere and unwavering reliance on His divine wisdom and mercy.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that when we place our trust in Allah, difficulties become easy for us. This trust empowers us to face challenges with courage and resilience, knowing that Allah is always there to guide and support us. By relying on Him, we find ease in the midst of hardships and experience the profound peace that comes from surrendering our affairs to the Most Merciful. May Allah grant us the ability to trust in Him wholeheartedly and make our paths easy.
