Hadith #10821

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states, "بِالتَّوَدُّدِ تَتَأَكَّدُ المَحَبَّةُ۔" This Hadith emphasizes the importance of affection in strengthening love. Let us delve deeper into the meaning of this Hadith and explore its significance in light of the Quran.

The word (tawaddud) "تَوَدُّدِ" comes from the root word (wadd) "وَدّ", which means love, affection, or friendship. It signifies a deep and genuine feeling of care and fondness towards others. The word (tatakkadu) "تَتَأَكَّدُ" is derived from the root word (akkada) "أَكَّدَ", which means to strengthen, confirm, or solidify. The Quran provides us with numerous verses that highlight the significance of love and affection in the lives of Muslims. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says in Surah Al-Rum (30:21),

And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who give thought.

This verse emphasizes that Allah has created spouses for us to find tranquility in, and He has placed between them affection and mercy. This affectionate bond between spouses is a manifestation of the love that strengthens their relationship.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Shura (42:23), Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states,

It is that of which Allah gives good tidings to His servants who believe and do righteous deeds. Say, [O Muhammad], 'I do not ask you for this message any payment [but] only good will through kinship.' And whoever commits a good deed - We will increase for him good therein. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Appreciative.

This verse highlights the importance of maintaining good relations with our kin and loved ones. By showing affection and kindness towards them, we not only strengthen the bond of love but also increase our own goodness in the sight of Allah.
