— Imam Ali a.s.
(Ghurar al-Hikam: Prophets, Messengers And Imams)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), and his righteous companions.

The Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

The Messengers of Allah have a clear elucidation for every [divine] command.

This profound statement highlights the role of the Messengers of Allah as the bearers of divine guidance and the clarifiers of the commandments of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).

Let us delve into the meanings of the key words in this Hadith. The word (hukm) "حُكْم" refers to the divine commandments and rulings that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has prescribed for humanity. It encompasses both religious and legal rulings. The word (tabyeen) "تَبْيِينٌ" means clear elucidation or explanation. It signifies the role of the Messengers in clarifying and explaining the divine commandments to the people.

This Hadith emphasizes the importance of divine guidance and the role of the Messengers in providing a clear understanding of Allah's commandments. It affirms that the Messengers of Allah possess the knowledge and wisdom to explain and elucidate the divine rulings to the people. This knowledge is not limited to a specific Messenger or a particular time, but rather it extends to all the Messengers throughout history.

The Quran provides numerous verses that support and complement the message of this Hadith. In Surah An-Nahl, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) says, (Quran 21:25)

And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, 'There is no deity except Me, so worship Me.'

This verse highlights the fundamental message of monotheism and the worship of Allah alone, which is a clear elucidation of the divine commandment.

Furthermore, in Surah Al-Ma'idah, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) states, (Quran 5:48)

And We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth, confirming that which preceded it of the Scripture and as a criterion over it.

This verse emphasizes the comprehensive and clear nature of the Quran, which serves as a criterion for distinguishing between right and wrong, and as a clear elucidation of the divine commandments.

The consequences of this Hadith are profound. It highlights the importance of seeking knowledge and understanding the teachings of the Messengers of Allah. It encourages Muslims to turn to the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad () and his Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) for guidance in all aspects of life. It reminds us that the Messengers of Allah were not only chosen to convey the divine message but also to provide a clear and detailed explanation of the commandments.

Reflecting on this Hadith, we realize the immense blessing of having access to the teachings of the Messengers of Allah. It is through their guidance that we can navigate the complexities of life and adhere to the commandments of Allah. As Muslims, we should strive to deepen our understanding of the Quran and the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad () and his Ahl al-Bayt (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ), seeking clarity and guidance in every aspect of our lives.

May Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) grant us the wisdom and knowledge to comprehend His commandments and follow the guidance of the Messengers. May He bless us with the ability to seek knowledge and apply it in our lives, and may He guide us on the straight path.
