(Ghurar al-Hikam: God-Given Success)

Personal Reflection

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all worlds. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (), his pure progeny, and his noble companions.

The Arabic Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) states,

مَنْ تَأَيَّدَ فِي الأُمُورِ ظَفِرَ بِبُغْيَتِهِ۔

This can be translated as,

One who is supported [by Allah] in his affairs is successful in achieving his goals.

Let us delve into the deeper meaning of this thought-provoking saying. The word (ta'ayyada) "تَأَيَّدَ" comes from the root word (ayada) "أَيَدَ", which means to support, assist, or strengthen. It implies that when Allah supports someone in their endeavors, they are granted the necessary strength, guidance, and assistance to overcome obstacles and achieve their objectives.

The word (umoori) "أُمُورِ" refers to affairs or matters. It encompasses all aspects of life, including personal, social, and spiritual matters. It signifies that the support of Allah is not limited to a specific area but extends to every facet of our lives.

The word (zafira) "ظَفِرَ" means to succeed or triumph. It indicates that when Allah supports an individual, they will not only achieve their goals but also attain success and victory in their endeavors. This success is not merely materialistic but encompasses spiritual growth, moral development, and overall well-being.

To further understand the significance of this Hadith, let us turn to the Quran for guidance. Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) assures us of His support and assistance in numerous verses:

1. In Surah Al-Baqarah (2:286), Allah says,

Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear.

This verse reminds us that Allah's support is tailored to our individual capabilities. He will never burden us with challenges that exceed our capacity to handle. With His support, we can overcome any difficulty that comes our way.

2. In Surah Al-Hajj (22:40), Allah states,

Indeed, Allah supports those who support Him.

This verse emphasizes the reciprocal nature of Allah's support. When we strive to please Allah, obey His commands, and seek His guidance, He will support us in our endeavors.

3. In Surah Al-Anfal (8:30), Allah declares,

And [remember] when the disbelievers plotted against you to restrain you or kill you or evict you [from Makkah]. But they plan, and Allah plans. And Allah is the best of planners.

This verse highlights the ultimate support and protection of Allah. Despite the plots and schemes of the disbelievers, Allah's plan prevails, and His support ensures the success of His chosen servants.

Imam Ali's (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) Hadith reminds us that success is not solely dependent on our own efforts but is ultimately granted by Allah's support. When we align our intentions and actions with the teachings of Islam, seeking Allah's pleasure and relying on His guidance, we can be assured of His support in all our affairs.

This Hadith also serves as a motivation for us to strive for righteousness and seek Allah's assistance in our daily lives. It encourages us to turn to Allah in times of difficulty, knowing that He is the ultimate source of strength and success. It reminds us that true victory lies not in worldly achievements but in attaining the pleasure of Allah and fulfilling our purpose as Muslims.

In conclusion, the Hadith of Imam Ali (عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ) teaches us that when Allah supports us in our affairs, we are granted the means to achieve our goals and find success. This support is not limited to a specific area but encompasses all aspects of our lives. By seeking Allah's assistance, aligning our actions with His guidance, and relying on His strength, we can overcome challenges and attain true success in this world and the Hereafter. May Allah grant us His support and guide us on the path of righteousness.
